Family fun in the Chicago suburbs including crafting with glass


The weekend is ahead! So many great events including Veterans Day events, working with glass, craft fairs, tech and science fairs and even Santa! Here are my picks for fun in the Chicago suburbs this weekend:

Thursday, November 8:
  • November 8-11 The Grove Arts & Crafts Faire, The Grove, Glenview, 10AM-8PM Nov 8 & 9; Nov 10 & 11 10AM-5PM, $5 pp, $1 per child ages 12 and under
Friday, November 9:
  • November 9-11 Make a Glass Pumpkin, Peter Patterson Glassworks, 10AM-4PM, first come first serve, $35 pp for small, $65 large
Saturday, November 10:
  • November 10-11 Festival of Arts & Crafts, Forest View Educational Center, Arlington Heights, 9AM-4PM Sat, 10AM-4PM Sun, $5 pp, ages 11 and under free
  • November 10 America Recycles Day, Kent Fuller Air Station Prairie/Tyner Center, 10AM-2PM, learn about recycling, family activities, crafts, free
  • November 10-11 Gnome Globes and Gnome Hunt, Morton Arboretum, 11AM-2PM, Children's Garden, hunt for gnomes in the Children's Garden (hunt is free with admission), then create a globe to bring home, globes are $7 pp for members, $10 for non, must purchase ticket in visitor's center, limited number, admission is separate, weather permitting
  • November 10 Holiday Fair and Santa's Arrival, The Arboretum of South Barrington, 11AM-8PM, Santa & Mrs. Claus, storytime, ice rink, tree lighting and more, see schedule
  • November 10 Tech Fair, Arlington Heights Memorial Library, 11AM-3PM, hands-on activities with tech, demos, mini lectures, registration recommended, card not needed
  • November 10  Farmhouse Museum Tours, Kline Creek Farm, West Chicago, 10AM-4PM, tours on the hour, blacksmithing demo at 1:30, free
  • November 10-11 Cottages in the Woods, Geneva, Good Templar Park, 10AM-4PM, 12 cottages full of holiday crafts and Scandinavian items, $8 pp, kids free, special troll hunt for kids
  • November 10-11 Viking Ship, Good Templar Park, Geneva, 10AM-4PM, open for tours, $5 per adult, $3 per child
  • November 10 Family Program -- Speed Volunteering, McCormick  Museum, Cantigny, Wheaton, 12PM-3PM, make cards for the VA, work on other quick volunteer projects, $5 parking
  • November 10 STEM Explosion! Science Fest for All Ages, Woodridge Public Library, 12PM-4PM, NIU is bringing their STEM Exploration Labs for 30 hands-on activities, free
Sunday, November 11:
  • November 11 Silhouette Artist, Beat Street West, Arlington Heights, 10AM-1PM, $29 for one subject, Extra copy ($12 cut at the same time) , Black Oval Frame: $18, must call to reserve time: 847-749-3045
  • November 11 Armistice Day Bells of Peace, Cantigny Park, Wheaton, 10:50AM-11:30AM, toll bells in honor of the Armistice, bring your own bell or use one of Cantigny's while supplies last, warm up with Victory Tea after and visit the First Division Museum, $5 per car parking
  • November 11 Veterans Day Parade, Aurora, 10AM-1PM
  • November 11 Veteran Trees, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 1PM, learn how to determine the age of trees, estimate heights and more, free
  • November 11  Farmhouse Museum Tours, Kline Creek Farm, West Chicago, 10AM-4PM, tours on the hour,  free
  • November 11 Veterans Day, Prairie Lakes, Des Plaines, 2PM, honor veterans, learn about and meet comfort dogs
  • November 11 Make a Snake Ornament at Willowbrook, Glen Ellyn, 2PM-3:30PM, drop in, make a craft, meet resident snakes face-to-face, free
