Kashi's Soft Baked Squares---Our Taste Test

When I first learned about Kashi's Soft Baked Squares, I was immediately interested. I love Kashi products, so I thought that I would give this spin on the brownie a chance. The squares have interesting ingredients--including black beans, sweet potatoes, and agave. Now, I like these ingredients independently. However, would I like them mixed together in a chocolate square?

This first thing that I did before tasting my square was break it. When I broke it, I noticed that the top seemed to be moist but the inside did not.  If you look at the pictures, I think you really can tell how the top differs from the inside. I tasted the square and found it to be drier than I like. At first, it had a dull taste but as I continued eating, the chocolate really did come through and I ended up liking the bar. The chocolate was actually a bit richer than I had anticipated. I let my daughter try some and she was an immediate fan.

Overall, I would say if you are looking for a little treat, this may work. I liked the bar but it is not my favorite. One big plus---it is definitely healthier than your standard brownie. The squares have whole grains and 300mg of ALA omega-3. With my daughter's stamp of approval, this may work for a good treat as opposed to giving her a traditional, less healthy brownie. I have to say that every time she enjoys a treat with whole grains, I have to smile. Sometimes, that can be a big challenge!
