Wednesday Weekend Windup

I am really liking the holiday season this year. It is great that we have four weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas. With four weeks, you have more time to get involved in fun activities. Now, don't get me wrong, but the time is still busy. However, the days are much more of a blur if you only have three weeks between the holidays!

There are so many things going on now! Here are some of the cool things this weekend that caught our eyes:

Thursday, December 6

Sleigh rides will be going on in Downtown Arlington Heights from 5:30PM-8:30PM. What a great way to see the lights! If you have not seen the lights in North School Park, now is the time! My daughter loves to walk through the park and take in all of the lit up creations. You will be able to get a 10% discount off of Berry Yo concoctions (hot chocolate and frozen yogurt) on the day of the event.

Friday, December 7

The Mount Prospect Public Library will be having a Create-a-Craft Hullabaloo from 11:30PM-5PM on Friday. No registration necessary, just stop in and create! :) Children under 9 must be accompanied by and adult.

Barnes & Noble stores will be having a Polar Express reading at 7:00PM. Some of the stores will have additional treats and activities. I recommend checking with your store to make sure they are holding the event. (I have found that the event calendar does not list all of the events, so if you do not see it listed for your store, call.)

In Lombard, there will be free train rides with Santa 12/7 - 12/9 from 6PM-8PM at Lilacia Park. The park will also be lit up magically with lights. This event will also be occurring at the same time next weekend (12/14 - 12/16).

Saturday, December 8

Biaggi's in Deer Park Center will be hosting a breakfast with Santa starting with reservations at 8AM. Breakfast will be served as a buffet. The cost is a $5 donation per adult, $3 per child to benefit WINGS. So, you will be spreading your cheer to those in need! Call 847-438-1850 for reservations.

Also at Deer Park on Saturday, Brilliant Sky will have a free child's holiday craft from 1:00PM-3:00PM, while supplies last.

The North Shore and Western Railroad Club will have the Community Room at the Glenview Public Library filled with model railroads Saturday from 9AM-4:30PM and Sunday 1PM-4:30PM. The event is free and will be fun for little ones that love trains.

The Buddy Foundation will be having photos with Santa Paws from 11:00AM-3:00PM on Saturday. There is a $7.50 donation to the animal shelter for the photo. We have done this the past few years and enjoy getting a picture of our dogs with Santa while supporting a great cause!

Dogs will also love the Jingle Paws event at the Meineke Center in Schaumburg from 12PM-2PM. There will be a treat hunt, costume contest, Santa pictures, a play area, and more. The event costs $2pp and $6 per dog for residents, $3pp and $7 per dog for nonresidents. It may be time for some holiday fun for the pooches!

The Palatine Children's Chorus will be performing Carols by Candlelight at Cutting Hall in Palatine on Saturday at 3:00PM. Tickets are $8 per adult and $6 for children and seniors. Check the website to order tickets.

Sunday, December 9

Sunday will be the first day of the Hanukkah Family Funland at the Buffalo Grove Town Center. The event will be from 12:00PM-5:00PM. There will be crafts, activities, carnival games, and more. Adults are free and kids are $10 at the door (a family of four+ will be $36). Children under 2 are free. To purchase discounted tickets and for other dates of the event, check the website.

For more events on Sunday, check the train rides with Santa in Lombard and model trains at the Glenview Public Library listed above.

If you are still looking for more to do, don't forget the Enchanted Railroad at the Morton Arboretum!
