Wednesday Weekend Windup {Nice Weekend Ahead}

The heat has definitely been on the last few days! It has been so hot that one of my dogs refuses to go outside during the day. I guess she is being smart---as long as there aren't any mistakes. (We did have one so far. Hopefully, no more!) The good news is that temperatures will be beautiful over the weekend! Time to get out!

I am looking forward to this weekend. There is a lot to do! Here are some fun activities in our area:

Friday, July 19

The Des Plaines Summer Fling in Downtown Des Plaines runs from Friday through Sunday. There will be music, arts and crafts vendors, kids activities, food vendors and more. We have been to this event before and have had a great time! Be sure to check the website for more details. Admission free but there is a cost for rides and food, etc.

Alpine Fest will be held in Lake Zurich Friday through Sunday as well. The event will have carnival rides, games, family events, food, a parade and more. Check website for more specifics.

Saturday, July 20

Stades Farm & Market in McHenry will be having a fun Old Time Country Fair Saturday and Sunday from 10:00AM-6:00PM. Enjoy the season's first roasted sweet corn, sack races, bale throwing, dance contest, music and more. We attended Stade's festival in the fall and loved it. Admission is $8 per person with extra fees for Frank the combine ($5) and pony rides ($3). All of the other rides are unlimited. With an 8-year-old, we really felt that we got our money's worth last fall!

Enjoy Yoga with your Child at Dharma Yoga in Evanston. The class will be given by Samana from Kidz N Moms from 2PM-3PM. The event is by donation. Donations benefit Creatively Caring, an organization that helps the community through fun, family service projects. Please RSVP to 847 999 4885. Yoga is such a good way to bond with your child while learning how to center yourself!

Attention all train fans! The Blackberry Farm Model Train Extravaganza will be steaming along at Blackberry Farm in Aurora from 11AM-5PM on Saturday and 11AM-4PM on Sunday. Admission for adults is $8 for nonresidents, $5 for residents. For children and seniors, it is $7 for nonresidents and $4.50 for residents. Admission covers the farm and extravaganza. We love Blackberry Farm! There is a lot to see and do from the pioneer village to pony rides to a Main Street Museum. Fun!

Evanston will be home to the Evanston Ethnic Arts Festival this weekend at Dawes Park, The event runs from 12:00PM-7:00PM on Saturday and Sunday. The fun includes live music, dances and juried art. You will also learn folk dances and learn about ethnic foods and spices. Admission is free!

Sunday, July 21

This weekend will be perfect for walking around the Chicago Botanic Garden. The  Malott Japanese Garden Family Sundays event will run from 11AM-4PM. Families can participate in activities to learn about Japanese culture and make kabuto (samurai helmets). Parking at Chicago Botanic Gardens is $25per car. Admission is free. There are some exhibitions within the Gardens that have a charge. Please see the website for more info.

Buzzing about Insects will have the Merkle Cabin at Spring Valley Nature Center in Schaumburg buzzing from 12:00PM-4:00PM. Learn about insects through activities and pictures. You will also take a hike to learn more. The activity is free and it is always fun to walk around Spring Valley!

  1. Great list! I think the Kane County Fair is also this weekend and I'm going to try to go to that too.

    1. There is so much to do in the summer! Thank goodness the temps should go down for the weekend! Have fun!
