Celebrate Howl-o-ween in the 'Burbs!

Do your pooches love to get into the Halloween action? Or, do you like your pooches to get into the Halloween action? My dogs seem to alternate their temperament in regard to wearing costumes or not. Sometimes they are cool with it, sometimes not so much. So, is Howl-o-ween for them or for me? I suppose it depends on the caliber of treats received! If you like to take your furry friends to Howl-o-ween bashes, there are a few in the area.

Saturday, October 5

Dogs can celebrate Howl-o-ween at the Doggie Dash and Costume Contest at Hunt Club Park in Gurnee from 1:30PM-3:00PM. There will be a walk, dash and costume contest. The event is free!

Saturday, October 12

The Pet Lover's Showcase in Wood Dale  will give you an opportunity to show off your dog's costume during a costume contest. The event runs 10AM-1PM at the Cabin Nature Center. Admission to the event is free. There will be raffles and giveaways!

Join the Howl-O-Ween Pooch Parade from 12PM-2PM at the Meineke Recreation Center in Schaumburg. In addition to a costume contest, there will be an agility course, fun tricks, a parade and a free play area. All dogs must have current shots. You can attach records to registration or bring them to Meineke. The event costs $2 per resident and $5 per resident dog, $3 per person and $7 per dog for nonresidents. Saturday, October 19

All PetSmarts nationwide will be having a costume party from 9AM-11AM. The first 50 pets to arrive in costume will receive a free goodie bag! 

Elk Grove Village will have a Doggie Trick-or-Treat event from 10AM-10:45AM at the Al Hattendorf Gym. Dogs will get treats and can enjoy an agility course. Owners will receive a picture of themselves with their dogs. The event costs $15 per dog. You must register by October 11. Please check website for more information.
 Hoots 'n H'Owls will be a fun family event at Randhurst Village in  Mt. Prospect from 11:30AM-5:00PM.
The event  includes a pet costume parade and contest as well as a ton of family fun. The event is free!
The Chicago Botanic Garden will be holding the Spooky Pooch Parade from 11AM-1PM. We have attended this event in the past and you will be amazed by the intricate costumes! Besides the parade and costume contest, vendors and nonprofits will be present. Tickets cost $14 for members and $19 for nonmembers in advance, $20 and $25 respectively the day of. Tickets are per dog. Parking at the Botanic Gardens is $25 per car.

Join Bentley's Corner Barkery in Schaumburg for a Howl-o-ween Party from 2PM-4PM. You dogs will have fun at a costume party, enjoying free treats and winning prizes! The event is free!

Sunday, October 20

Bentley's Corner Barkery in Long Grove will be holding its Howl-o-ween Party from 2PM-4PM. The fun will include a costume party, free treats and prizes! The event is free!

Thursday, October 24

Bentley's Corner Barkery in Arlington Heights will hold its Howl-o-ween Party from 6PM-8PM. The party fun will include a costume party, free treats and prizes! The event is free!

Saturday, October 26

Partake in a doggie costume contest with Kriser's at the Arboretum Shops in South Barrington. The free event runs 11AM-1PM and there will be plenty of fun for the human kiddos as well--including trick-or-treating!

Wanda the Witch will be visiting The Buddy Foundation in Arlington Heights from 11:00AM-3:00PM. Bring your pets and kids in costume. A $7.50 donation includes photo. There will be a prize for the best costume!

During Lake Shore Harley Davidson's Customer Appreciation and Harl-o-ween celebration, there will be a pet costume contest at 1PM. Entry fees are a $5 donation to Save-a-Pet. The entire celebration is from 10AM-3PM, so check the website for more activity info.

There will be a Fall Festival with pet costume party at Deer Park Town Center. The event also includes trick-or-treating for the human kids! The free event runs from 1PM-4PM. Check website for more details.

Petcos nationwide will be having a Bootiful Pet Costume Party at 2PM. Bring your favorite furry pal in a costume for a chance to win prizes!

Sunday, October 27

Wilmette Pet Center will be holding Howloween Happenings from 12PM-4PM. For a $10 donation, you can take home a keepsake print of your family including your costume sporting furry friends! There will be other family activities in conjunction with the event including games and crafts for the kids, kids coloring contest, kids costume contest and of course a costume contest for the pets! Proceeds go to Adopt-a-Pet.

Niche restaurant in Geneva will be holding its Annual Pet Parade and Costume Contest at 1PM. Entry fees are $10 with the proceeds being donated to Anderson Animal Shelter. To register, check the website.

  1. Thanks for these! We don't even have a dog to bring, but we like to go to a lot of these events because my son loves animals! I also had a note about the Midwest Pet Show in Gurnee on the 19th in my calendar.
