Wednesday Weekend Windup {The Final Stretch}

Christmas is one week from today so we are in the final stretch! Are you going crazy yet? I love the holidays, however, I would really like my hours to go back to normal. This time of year, there just are not enough hours to get everything done! I seem to always have these lofty ambitions and I end each day realizing I did not accomplish many of my goals for the day. It all gets done somehow.....

Of course, I still make room for holiday fun! Here are some fun events for this weekend:

Wednesday, December 18

Illumination at the Morton Arboretum will run through January 4th. The new interactive light show will begin each evening at 4:30PM with the last entry at 8:30PM. (Please note that the event is closed November 28, December 2, 9, 16, 24, 25). Walk along a trail and hug a tree to see it glow, sing to another and see it light up and discover other fun ways to interact with trees! Tickets are $15 per adult, $10 per child (2-17) or $10 per adult member and $5 per member child. Tickets include daily admission to Arboretum. You can order tickets online.

Enjoy the Cosley Zoo  Festival of Lights in Wheaton daily 3PM-9PM through December 30. Twinkling light displays will sparkle throughout zoo. There will also be a tree sale through December 24. Purchase special holiday gifts in the gift store. Admission is free. The zoo is closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day. We have been to this event before and have found it perfect for the really little ones!

Thursday, December 19

There will be free sleigh rides in downtown Arlington Heights Thursday and Friday from 5:30PM-8:30PM. You can board the sleigh at Harmony Park. Bring a blanket! 

Friday, December 20

It is the Winter Solstice! Celebrate at the Solstice Party at the Elmhurst Art Museum from 3PM-8PM The event is free and includes holiday treats, seasonal drinks, games, crafts and a Santa visit! 

Friday is also the beginning of the Winter Carnival at the Glenview Ice Center. The event will run through January 5 and will include various events at different times. Admission costs $7.50 pp general admission, $4.50 for skate rental. **There are no events December 25.** Check the website for more info.

Saturday, December 21

Enjoy a Victorian Christmas Tour at the Frank Lloyd Wright Home in Oak Park. Tours run continuously from 9AM-11AM and are free! 

Candy Cane Lane by Swapadventure will be a fun event while helping a cause. The event will be held at Victoria in the Park Banquet Hall in Mt. Prospect from 10AM-2PM. The excitement will include pizza, music, face painting, glitter tattoos, arts and crafts. Santa and the snow princess will visit. Please bring 1 new or gently used toy, book or article of clothing to donate. Admission is free.
Santa and his Elf will be visiting Culver's in Palatine from 10AM-1PM. Part of the Palatine High School choir will also be singing. Of course, you will have to stay for a sweet treat!

Meatheads in Barrington will be having a Santa Visit and giving out free holiday shakes from 12PM-2PM. The event is free!

Santa Claus will visit Berry Yo in Arlington Heights from 12PM-2PM on Saturday and Sunday. Bring your camera and meet Santa for free!

A Closer Bond in Palatine is holding its Ugly Sweater Day, Cookie Exchange and Open House from 1PM-3PM. There will be snowman sculpting, agility, hot cocoa bar, free! Bring some cookies to exchange {not required} and/or some old clothes to dress your snowman in. RSVP online or by phone 847-358-7312. A Closer Bond is a dog training and boarding facility--so you can bring your dogs as well!

Ride the Polar Express at Blackberry Farm in Aurora Saturday and Sunday from 2PM-6PM. The event costs $5 pp. Ride the train around lake, listen to a reading of Polar Express, enjoy festive activities and visit Santa. There will be cookies, hot chocolate and more!    

Visit The Glen Town Center Saturday for Holiday Merriment from 5PM-9PM. The event will include reindeer, carriage rides, carolers and more for free! Have dinner at one of the restaurants in The Glen and enjoy the holiday spirit. We had fun doing this last year!
 Sunday, December 22

Make a bird feeder to take home at Holiday Hangers at River Trail Nature Center in Northbrook from 1:30PM-2:30PM. The event is free!
