Wednesday Weekend Windup {Another Long Weekend!}

This winter has really dragged on. I am so glad that we {in theory} should be nearing the end! There is one maple syrup event this weekend, so the end is really near, right? This weekend, the kids have another long weekend. Judging by the fact that my daughter has not mentioned it, she may be a little tired of days off and is looking forward to a more regular school schedule. Since the weather will be warming up, it looks like she will eventually get her wish!

If you are looking for some fun events this weekend, here are some ideas:

Friday, February 14

Now through February 16 there will be Gyotaku Fish Printing at the Kohl Children's Museum in Glenview. Have fun using a traditional Japanese form of painting. Times vary daily so check website. Admission is $9.50 per adults and children, $8.50 for seniors, under 1 year old free.

Head over to Whole Foods Market Kildeer for Sweets for your Sweetie. The event will include a photo booth set up in the learning center for cute pics (1PM-6PM) and to send ecards. Later, from 6PM-8PM enjoy live music. While you are at the store, enter to win a gift basket. The event is free and you can even buy some dinner while you are there!

How about enjoying a skate during the Valentine's Day Party at Orbit Skate Center in Palatine from 7PM-11PM. Enjoy costume contests and games. There will be prizes! Admission is $8 ($32 per family) and each skate rental is $3.

Saturday, February 15

Learn during Maple Fest at Red Oak Nature Center in Batavia from 9AM-1PM. See how maple sap is turned into syrup. The event starts every hour on the hour. The event is free. Maple treats will be for sale.

WinterFest will add some extra family fun to Old Orchard in Skokie from 12PM-3PM. There will be carriage rides, hot cocoa, a photo booth, hands-on science experiments by the Museum of Science and Industry, ice sculptures and more for free!

Kids can get creative during Love Craft: Cupcake Decorating for Kids at Whole Foods Market Kildeer from 12:00P-1:00PM. The event is free with registration and is for kids 8-12. Learn how to decorate cupcakes from bakery experts. Parents are welcome.

Sunday, February 16

Learn about the Native Nations at Crabtree Nature Center in Barrington from 1PM-2PM. Learn about the Native People that settled in this area. The event is free!

Monday, February 17

Have fun and expend some energy at All Day Skate for Presidents Day at Orbit Skate Center in Palatine. The 10AM-1PM session is for 12 and under and the 1PM-6PM is for all skaters. The cost is $5 admission, $3 skate rental {if you need skates}.

Enjoy some hands-on fun at the Play Dough Factory at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library from 1:30PM-3:30PM. Make play dough and goo during the free drop-in event!
