Wednesday Weekend Windup {Time to Take out the Flip Flops?}

If another polar vortex encompasses Chicago, I am going to..........not do much more than make a hollow threat...While we can't do much about this insane cold, we can look forward to that spring somewhere in our future, right? Right? Maybe? Well, while we are waiting, here are some fun and affordable fun events this weekend.

**The events listed for Barnes & Noble and Lake Shore Learning are national, so if you are not in Chicagoland, check out locations by you!**

Friday, February 28

Even if the weather is trying to play with us, you can take out your flop flops for Flip Flop Fest at the Central Community Center in Mt. Prospect from 7PM-9PM. Put on that beach attire for a fun night of skating {cosmic skate}, a  bounce house, open gym and crafts. Admission costs $5 for residents, $7 non. There is a charge of $5 per skate rental if you do not bring your own.

Saturday, March 1

Be sure to check with your Barnes & Noble for the Lego Movie Building Event. Select Barnes & Noble's nationwide will be holding the event at various times. Space is limited. Call your store for availability and to register!!!!

Train lovers are in luck this weekend because the High Wheeler Train Show will be at Harper College in Palatine this weekend from 9AM-5PM on Saturday and Sunday. Adult & teen admission is $9, seniors 65+ $7, kids 5-12 $2, under 5 free. There is a coupon for up to 4 free kids with paying adult.

Head over to The Book Market at the Glen Town Center for Dance and Music Academy Presents Candyland from 10:30AM-11:30AM. Let loose, dance and sing. There will be a storytime. This is a  free drop-in event for those 2-6.

Visit Lake Shore Learning Center for a Dr. Seuss Birthday Celebration from 11AM-3PM. Make a hot air balloon, play the explore the globe game and make crafts. There will be a storytime every hour. The event is free!

Celebrate Mardi Gras at the Cendrillon Story Time at Indian Trails Public Library in Wheeling from 11AM-12PM. The event is for kids K-3. The Stevenson HS French Honor Society will be reading a Caribbean Cinderella tale for Mardi Gras followed by Mardi Gras mask making. There are 30 spaces and tickets given out 30 minutes prior to event.

It is time for the kids to learn about staying healthy! Head to Hoffman Estates for the
Healthy Kids Fair at Prairie Stone Sports and Wellness Center from 12PM-3PM. The event is free!

It is time to tap those trees! Saturday or Sunday, head over to the River Trails Nature Center in Northbrook for Sap's Rising from 1:30PM-2:30PM. Walk through the forest and learn about harvesting maple syrup. The event is free!

Have a blast at Kiddie-Gras at Park Center in Glenview from 4PM-5:30PM. There will be games, crafts, bouncers and Cajun-inspired snacks. Admission is $9 per child, $7 per adult and you must register.
