Round Up of Affordable Spring Break Fun in the Suburbs

Next week is Spring Break in our little piece of Chicagoland. By looking at event lists, it looks like the Spring Breaks may be a little staggered this year. Of course, it doesn't feel like Spring Break at all. What a strange year! I have put together a list of a few events in the area next week that are pretty affordable to help keep your little ones busy!

Raupp Museum in Buffalo Grove

March 24-28 Spring Break Activities at the Raupp Museum in Buffalo Grove. There will be crafts each day from 1:00PM-3:30PM. Crafts and activities include a clothespin butterfly (3/24), seeds to plant at home (3/25), squawking chickens (3/26), felt flowers (3/27) and making a kite (3/28). The activities are free and the museum is a great place to walk around! Plus, they just opened a new Crossroads exhibit which a little old time village that kids can explore. It is sure to please! If that isn't enough, there will also be free nature walks each day from 10:30AM-11:30AM. The nature walks begin at the Buffalo Grove Road entrance of Ryklo Park.  Lots to do and it is free!

Des Plaines History Center

March 25-28 Kinder House Tours at the Des Plaines History Center. Tour the 1907 house museum from 10AM-5PM. The tours are docent guided and begin at the Visitor Center at 781 Pearson Street. Tours are free. The Des Plaines History Center currently has a quilt exhibit as well.

Indian Trails Public Library in Wheeling

March 25 Dragonology at the Indian Trails Public Library in Wheeling from 4PM-5PM. For kids in grades 3-5, limited to 20 participants. Tickets are distributed 30 minutes prior in Youth Services Department. Become a dragonologist by learning about dragonlore and working on a dragon craft. Free!

March 26 Reptomania, Indian Trails Public Library, Wheeling, 11AM-12PM, representatives from the Science Alliance while bring some creatures for you to see, free, 100 tickets distributed 30 min prior.

March 28 Musical Program with Wendy Morgan and DB at the Indian Trails Public Library in Wheeling from 11:00AM-11:45AM. This is an interactive children's musical program geared towards kids ages 3 and up. The event is free but is limited to 100 participants. Tickets are distributed at the Youth Services Department starting 30 minutes before the show.

Barrington Area Library

March 26:Family Fort Building at the Barrington Area Library from 2PM-3PM. Bring your family to build a fort out of newspaper. The event is free and drop in. The Youth Services section has just been remodeled and will be fun to explore in its own right. There is lots to play with like a large chalk/magnet board, a puppet show area, a duplo play area, a huge lite bright station and more.

Yapa Events in Arlington Heights

March 28-29 Exploring Arlington Heights! A Kids Adventure Hunt and Arlington in Pictures A Kids Photo Hunt, Arlington Heights by Yapa Events, 10AM-3PM--start time flexible, $10 per child, accompanying adult free, treat at the end, must register! A really fun time while learning about Arlington Heights! It is free-form, so very adaptable to exploring with kids!

Orbit Skate Center in Palatine

March 24-28 Orbit Skate Center Spring Break Skate each day 1-6PM (except Friday which is 1PM-4PM), $5 admission, $3 skate rental if needed. There will be a DJ, games and more. There also will be 12&under skates in the morning from 10AM-1PM if you prefer your little ones to skate mainly with other little ones!

Vernon Area Library

March 28 Fractured Fairytales at the Vernon Area Public Library from 11AM-12PM. The event is free but you must register! GreatWorks Touring Theater Company will perform with snippets from your favorite fairytales. Call 224-543-1486.
