Wednesday Weekend Windup: A Full Weekend of Fun

Looking ahead to this weekend, it looks like we are launching into festival season! The temperature is pretty cool today, so I am having a hard time believing that all of these festivals are already starting. But, they do provide delightful inspiration to go outside!

Here are some ideas for this weekend:

Saturday, May 17
If you love art festivals, you can start the season with the Spring Festival of the Arts at Oakbrook Center in Oak Brook. The fair will be open 10AM-5PM each day. The fun includes art, demos and kids activities for free! You can even make it a pleasant afternoon by adding lunch and/or dinner. {We are fans of The Clubhouse!}

Get your history on at Civil War Days at Naper Settlement in Naperville from 10AM-4PM Saturday and Sunday. Civil War reenactors will camp on site. You will be able to meet famous personages from the past. Admission is $13 per adult or kid 13+, $10 seniors and $8 younger kids.

Learn a little about Japanese culture during the Malott Japanese Garden Children's Festival at the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe from 10AM-2PM Saturday and Sunday. Listen to koto harp and shakuhaci flute music, hear folktales, watch a tea ceremony and more. Check the schedule on website. Admission is free but parking is $25 per car.

Saturday brings the Spring Fun Fair to Mt. View Adventure Center in Des Plaines from 10AM-1PM. The fun will include touch a truck, a pooch pet and pedal parade, inflatables, free bike helmets to the first 100 kids, a climbing wall, a health fair and more. Free admission. Please check the website for more details and how to enter the pooch parade.

Have a fun family night at Pirates' Cove Movie Night at Pirates' Cove in Elk Grove Village. They will be showing Disney's Winnie the Pooh. Attractions open before movie. The movie starts at 8:15PM. There will be concessions. Evening admission rates apply. Adults are free! If you have not been to Pirates' Cove yet, it is an amusement park for the under 9 crowd. The park is perfect for the younger kids and we spend several magical days there without the stress of larger parks!
