Wednesday Weekend Windup {Lots to Do, Lots to Do}

We are in the final countdown to summer! I drove by one of the pools in Palatine and it is ready! Although I am not a pool person, pools certainly signify great weather! {At least, that is the hope.} I am looking forward to this long weekend. Judging by how many other parents dropped their kids off at school right as the bell was ringing this morning, I think that many of you are looking forward to it to!

Need some inspiration to get out? Here are some fun ideas in our area:

Thursday, May 22

The Mt. Prospect Jaycees are holding a Memorial Day Carnival Thursday-Monday. Tickets are $1.25 each or 20 for $20. Check website for hours. The carnival will be at Mt. Prospect Plaza at Rand and Central.

Friday, May 23

Friday through Monday, you can enjoy Chocolatefest in Burlington, Wisconsin if you are up for a bit of a drive. The fun includes contests, demonstrations, chocolate sampling, carnival rides, live music, puppeteers, an illusionist and more. Tickets are $5 or 5 nonperishable food items on Fri., $7 pp Sat, Sun and Mon. Taster tickets are $6 additional. There is a lot more info on website and you can buy tickets online. I have not made it up to this festival yet, but anything chocolate is always on my list!

There is a  Parent and Child Golf Clinic at the Palatine Hills Golf Course from 5:30PM-7:00PM on Friday. The event is free but you must register by calling 847-359-4020. Might be a good way for dad to have some extra fun with the kids!

Have a bubbly good time at Ben's Bubble Show at The Book Market in The Glen Town Center in Glenview from 7PM-7:45PM. You will be amazed by bubble sculpture and learn about the science and magic of bubbles. The event is free but you must register.

Saturday, May 24
If you missed the art fest last weekend, Saturday and Sunday bring the Barrington Art Festival to Downtown Barrington. The event runs each day 10AM-5PM. There will be over 120 juried artists displaying various media, epicurean delights, music and kids activities. Admission is free!

If you go to the art fair on Saturday, stop by the Mini Art Faire at Norton's U.S.A. also in Barrington from 11AM-4PM. There will be 6 local artists sharing and selling their work. Admission is free.

Also on Saturday and Sunday is the Chicagoland Gem, Mineral & Fossil Show at the DuPage County Fairgrounds in Wheaton from 10AM-6PM Sat and 10AM-5PM Sun. Rockhounds will rejoice! There will be exhibits, demonstrations, geode splitting, children's rock area and more. Admission is $5 per adult, $3 seniors and kids 13-17, under 13 are free. Parking is free.
Enjoy baseball season with Kids in the Kitchen Ball Park Favorites at Whole Foods Market in Schaumburg from 10AM-11AM. The free event is for kids 8-12. They will make some ball park inspired food. You must register to attend.

This weekend,  Pirates' Cove opens for the season! Pirates' Cove is located in Elk Grove. This weekend, Pirates' Cove is open 10AM-4PM Sat and Mon and 12PM-4PM Sun. Admission is $11 per nonresident child, $9 per resident child and adults are free! (I love that adults are free!)

On Saturday, Sweets and Treats opens for season at Wagner Farm in Glenview. The soda fountain will be open 11AM-5PM Sat, 11AM-3PM Sun. You can purchase an ice cream treat while visiting the farm!
I just discovered this new activity at Old Orchard! Stop by Saturday from 2PM-3PM for The Organic Gardener Event. This week, kids will make silly seed cups. The Organic Garden is near Bloomingdale's and Crate and Barrel. Events each Sat and Tues through October 26 and are free!
