Wednesday Weekend Windup {Fun All Around}

Well, I think we may have just booked our last remaining summer weekend to the brim. In June, it sure felt like we had plenty of time to just smell the roses. Now, summer is in full swing and we are going nutty with so much to do. At least it is a good kind of insanely busy!

Looking ahead to the weekend, there is plenty of fun to enjoy. Here are the events that particularly jumped out to us:

Friday, July 11

Enjoy a pleasant summer evening at Family Fun Night at Blackberry Farm in Aurora. The event runs 7PM-10PM and includes family games, a campfire, rides, an outdoor movie (this week is Night at the Museum) and more. Bring blankets and lawn chairs for the movie. You can even bring a picnic! The event costs $5 pp at the door. There also will be another Family Fun Night July 25.

Enjoy the artistry at the Summer Figure Skating Exhibition at the Glenview Ice Center from 6PM-8PM. The event is free!

Saturday, July 12

Take a splendid walk in the park during Art in the Park at the Northbrook Village Green from 10AM-5PM Sat and 10AM-4PM Sun. There will be art to peruse and even purchase, kids activities and more. Admission is free!

Visit soldiers Saturday and Sunday during Civil War Days at the Lake County Discovery Museum in Wauconda. The event runs from 10AM-5PM Sat, 9AM-3PM Sun and includes an encampment, musicians, drills and kids activities. Admission is $10 per adult, $5 per child 4-17, $1 off with online coupon. There is a 2-day pass available.

Stroll through the Fine Arts Festival at the Buffalo Grove Town Center from 10AM-5PM Saturday and Sunday. Peruse art work and enjoy kids activities. Admission is free.

Ahoy! There will be a Pirate Party at the Lake on Saturday at Lake Arlington from 10:30AM-11:30AM. The event is cosponsored by AHML and AHPD and includes games, crafts, a balloon artist, a pop up library, family activities and more. The free event is drop in!

Let the kids be zen during Kids' Summer Saturday Kids Yoga at Whole Foods Northbrook from 11AM-1PM. Minisessions every 20 minutes for free!

The PNC Bank Town & Country at 1800 N AH Rd, AH is having an Opening Event from 11AM-2PM Saturday. The event includes free food from Portillo's, live DJ, photo booth, moonbounce, prize wheel and more for free!

Harry Potter fan? How about trying an Intro to Quidditch at Eton Park in Barrington from 12PM-2PM Saturday. Barrington Area Quidditch Club would like to teach you how to play quidditch, $5 pp, register online (a portion goes to Boys and Girls Clubs of America).

Have old fashioned fun at the Old Settlers' Picnic at the Volkening Heritage Farm in Schaumburg from 12PM-3PM. Bring a picnic and join in as costumed staff reenact a summer's day in the late 1880's. The event is free, food is available for purchase.

Saturday and Sunday enjoy a Theatre-Hike at the Morton Arboretum at 1PM. You will be following Alice in Wonderland and her zany journey! Read our previous post for more info.

"Rough" it during the  Family Camp Out at Maplewood Park in Deerfield from 5:00PM-8:30AM. There will be a movie in the park and games. Grill equipment is available. The event is free but must register, please read additional info online.

Sunday, July 13

Sundays is Dairy Day at the Elk Grove Historical Museum from 12PM-3PM. There will be cow milking demos. Also, learn how to churn butter, play old fashioned games, listen to 1880's music and make an ice cream sundae. Admission is $4 pp.
