Wednesday Weekend Windup {Art, Farm Fun and More!!!}

Time to plan the weekend ahead! There seems to be a pretty eclectic mix of events this weekend--something to tickle everyone's fancy! Here are some that stuck out to us:


ROAD TRIP IDEA--Illinois State Fair will be on in Springfield from August 7-17! Check website for more info!

Thursday, August 14

Get in one last outdoor movie at Movie in the Park: Despicable Me 2 at the Fred P Hall Amphitheatre in Palatine. The movie starts about 8:15PM. Bring your chairs, blankets and snacks! The event is free!
Saturday, August 16

Celebrate the beautiful hummingbird at the Hummingbird Festival at the Sagawau Environmental Learning Center in Lemont from 8:30AM-3:00PM. The free event will include games, demos, a tagging demo and more for free!

Enjoy soldiering Saturday and Sunday during Civil War Days at Blackberry Farm in Aurora from 9:30AM-5:00PM. Fun will include a battle reenactment, participating in 1800's activities and more. Admission is $8 non-resident adult, $7 non-resident child/senior, under 2 free, $5 and $4.50 per resident respectively. Check website for schedule. Blackberry Farm itself is a gem, so a day on the farm is sure to have those kiddos {and parents} smiling!

Saturday and Sunday bring the  Festival of the Horse and Drum to the Kane County Fairgrounds, St. Charles. There will be horse demos, a powwow, a renaissance area with jousting demos, a cowboy area and more. Admission is $15 per adult, $7 per child 6-15, 5 and under free, 9AM-10PM Sat, 9AM-7PM Sun. Saturday and Sunday also bring the Malott Japanese Garden Summer Festival to the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe from 10AM-2PM. There will be a tea ceremony, taiko drum and koto harp music, traditional folktales and crafts for kids like making a fish print or fan. There is a $25 parking per car, free admission. See schedule.

Learn about the farm at the Farm and Barn Fest at Yunker Farm in Mokena from 10AM-5PM. There will be sheep shearing, blacksmithing and more demos as well as old fashioned contests like sack racing, pie eating and seed spitting and more. Free admission, small fee for some activities, see schedule.

Stroll through artwork Saturday and Sunday at the  Lincolnshire Art Festival. The fair will be at the Village Green from 10AM-5PM each day. There will be art to peruse, art to purchase, kids activities and live music--admission is free!

Whole Foods Schaumburg will be having its Back to School Carnival from 12PM-4PM. The free fun includes samples, lunch ideas, face painting and more!

There will be a Free Screening of Boxcar Children at the Pickwick Theater in Park Ridge at 12PM. You will receive free tickets for 2 with donation of one used book, {does not guarantee seating, seating is first come, first served, gift bags for first 500}

Sunday, August 17

Spend Sunday leisurely enjoying Art in the Park in North School Park in Arlington Heights from 10AM-5PM. The event features more than 30 juried artists, kids activities, food vendors and more with free admission.

Enjoy another art experience at Art in the Park at the Sculpture Park in Skokie from 10AM-1PM. The event is a free sculpture event for kids in the shadows of the sculptures.

During The Roots of Americana at Graue Mill in Oak Park, musician Steven Justman will be performing American ballads on the banjo and guitar at 2PM. Admission to the museum is $4.50 for adults, $2 for children.
