Wednesday Weekend Windup {American History, European Culture and More!}

Looks like there are a bunch of avenues for fun learning experiences this weekend! Of course, the Festival of the Vine in Geneva will provide some nice tastes and sips of wine for those looking for foodie fun! Here are some fun events that caught our eye this weekend:

Friday, September 5

Friday through Sunday, foodies will enjoy the Festival of the Vine in Geneva. The event allows you to sample tastes from Geneva's finest restaurants. There will be kids activities and an arts and crafts show Sat and Sun. The fun also will include food demos and live music. Admission is free and there are tickets for purchase for food. Check the schedule for more deets.

Saturday, September 6

Saturday and Sunday will be the perfect days to learn about early America during The Des Plaines River Rendezvous in Willow Springs from 10AM-5PM Sat, 10AM-4PM Sun. The event will include a reenactment of early American life, canoe races, tomahawk throwing, craft demos and more. Admission is $10 per adult, $5 kids 6-12 and seniors, under 6 free, family of 1-2 adults and up to 4 kids for $25, cash only.

For those truck lovers out there, there will be a Touch a Truck Saturday in Elk Grove in Pirate's Cove parking lot from 10AM-12PM. The event is free!

This weekend, visit Europe during the Passport Europe Summer Festival at the Morton Arboretum Saturday and Sunday from 10AM-4PM. The Festival includes dancing, music, storytelling, games, vendors and food that give guests the flavor of Europe. Admission is included with admission to the Morton Arboretum. Admission is $12 Adults ages 18–64, $11 Seniors ages 65+ and $9 Youth ages 2–17. Those 1 and under are free! 

Sunday, September 7

The Marche Francais in Mt. Prospect from 8AM-1PM is a Farmer's market with a French twist. There will be French goods, French treats and a special storytime at 10AM. Admission is free!

Explore the Fascinating World of Fungi at the Chicago Botanic Garden from 10:00AM-4:30PM. The event is free, parking is $25 for nonmembers. Check our post for more info.

The Scandinavian Day Festival will bring a little a piece of the Nordic countries to Vasa Park in South Elgin from 10AM-6PM. Admission is $10 per adult, children under 12 free. There will be vendors including those with Nordic wares, ethnic foods, music, folk dancing, Scandinavian zoo, special exhibits and more.

Sunday is the Annual Family Picnic  for Creatively Caring. Help make Jared Boxes for Lutheran General at Wood Oaks Park in Northbrook at 11AM. Bring your own picnics but box making is free!

Cornfest Family Fun Day will be a cornful of fun at Graue Mill in Oak Brook from 11:30AM-4:00PM. The fest will include roasted corn, homemade pies, games, races, wood pile for creations and more. Free general admission, tickets for food for purchase.

Sunday is also the Fall Festival at the Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights from 11:30AM-5:00PM. The fun will include inflatables, carnival rides, live music, arts and crafts, vendors, princess visits and more. Free admission but kids wristbands for unlimited activities are $5 a piece. (There will be a worship at 10AM for those interested).
