Weekend Windup! Ideas for Weekend Fun!

Wow! It is the last weekend of Winter Break here. And, just on cue, the FRIGID weather is coming back NEXT WEEK! I have always said that the schools should consider making the first week of January part of Winter Break. So not looking forward to combating the cold next week......I can't complain too much, though--we had some pretty good weather over break!

This weekend is a little slower event wise. But, you don't want to miss your opportunity for last calls on Illumination and Wonderland Express. Here are our picks:

ROAD TRIP IDEA: Free Day at Milwaukee Zoo Saturday, January 3. Admission is free, parking fees still apply.

Friday, January 2

November 21-January 3 Illumination at the Morton Arboretum. See our previous Illumination post for details and prices

November 28-January 4 Wonderland Express at Chicago Botanic Gardens, read previous post

November 28-January Lights at North School Park, Arlington Heights, a collection of light displays, magnificent for younger children, free!

December 19-January 4 Winter Carnival, Glenview, character skates, hockey events, Enchanted Skate Breakfast, other events, some require registration, see schedule for times and costs

Ongoing: Frozemont--free ice skating in Rosemont, $8 charge for skate rentals, there is also tubing for a charge (if it isn't too warm), check schedule for times

Saturday, January 3

Mini-sled building, local Home Depot, 9AM-12PM, while supplies last, free, register online

Justin & Liam You Write the Songs, Barrington Public Library, 1PM-2PM, help write the songs during this interactive concert, free, bring Barrington library card, patrons of other libraries admitted as space allows.

Dinosaur Discoveries, Lizzadro Museum, Elmhurst, Children become dinosaur detectives with “Paleontologist Illinois Bones” to learn about the world of dinosaurs. Fossils and props are used to create an awareness of dinosaur characteristics. See live animals and how they are related to dinosaurs, 2:00PM-3:00PM, ages 4 & up, $5 pp, reservations recommended, (630) 833-1616

Justin & Liam in Concert, Barrington Public Library, 2:30PM-3:15PM, Grammy Nominee singers, family music, all ages free, bring Barrington library card, patrons of other libraries admitted as space allows.

Sunday, January 4

 Snow and S'mores, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 1PM-2PM, join naturalists in the nature play area for play, a campfire and s'mores, free but dress for the weather!

What's On The Menu? River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 3:00PM-4:00PM, animal feeding time,  learn about animals at the preserve during their feeding time, free!
