Wednesday Weekend Windup {St. Patrick's Day and Maple Syrup Fun!}

FINALLY--SPRING WEATHER! We did it, we survived! Time to celebrate! Looking for some family fun? Here are some ideas for the weekend!

Saturday, March 14

February 14-March 15 LAST WEEKEND: The Orchid Show, Chicago Botanic Garden, The Orchid Show will provide extra bursts of color throughout Chicago Botanic Garden's greenhouses. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and kids with those under 2 free ($8 and $6 respectively for members). Parking can be paid for online for $20 per car.  See our review of The Orchid Show
March 1-April 30 Lego Architecture Display at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library

March 14 Paint the Town Green, Palatine, entertainment, parade at 11AM, Irish Market 8AM-1PM, check schedule and for cover after 3PM

March 14-15 Sugar Bush Fair at Vera Meineke Nature Center in Schaumburg: The event takes place 9AM-12PM each day. Enjoy a breakfast of pancakes, maple syrup, sausage, juice and coffee. Take a peek at a pioneer sugar camp, check out a puppet show and go on a hayride. General admission to fair is free. Pancakes are $4 for a half stack, $5 for whole if tickets purchased in advance and $5/$6 day of. Other items will be available for purchase.

March 14-15 Festival of the Sugar Maples at Coral Woods in Marengo: Learn how maple syrup was made throughout history. Learn how trees produce the sap. Learn how to collect the sap. See how maple syrup is produced in the evaporator house. The event runs from 10AM-3PM each day and is free! 

March 14 Green Living Fair, Libertyville Civic Center, Libertyville, 10AM-2PM, educational opportunities, recycling opportunities (list on flyer), kids activity corner, free admission

March 14-15 Maple Sugaring Days at Naper Settlement in Naperville: Watch tree tapping demos and try your hand at drilling. See how sap is boiled down into syrup. Make a bookmark in the Print Shop. Learn the reel. Check out the historic buildings. Try a maple treat and much more! Saturday 10AM-4PM, Sunday 1PM-4PM. Admission is $12/adult, $10/senior, $8/child (4-12) and free for members and Naperville residents. 

March 14 Mini Golf in the Library, Mt. Prospect Public Library, 11AM-4PM, $5 pp ($20, for family of 4 or more), golf throughout the library, refreshments, games, entertainment after, fundraiser for Mount Prospect Public Library Foundation

March 14 The Three Little Pigs by Roz Puppets, The Book Market, The Glen Town Center, 11AM-11:45AM, free but must register

March 14 Maple Syrup Harvest *March 14 only* at Heller Nature Center in Highland Park: Learn how to tap trees and make maple syrup. There are two times available--11:30AM-12:30PM and 2:30PM-3:30PM. The event is $6 pp and you must register. Children must be accompanied by registered adult. Good for those 6 and older.

March 14-15 Maple Syrup Hikes at Ryerson Woods in Riverswoods: The event runs March 14-29 on Saturdays and Sundays only and run every half hour 12:30PM-2:30PM. Hikes cost $6 pp and you must register. Register by calling 847-968-3321

March 14-15 Sap's Rising at River Trail Nature Center in Northbrook: Take a walk in the maple forest as winter is coming to an end and learn about the maple sugaring process. The event runs 1:30PM-2:30PM both days and is free.

March 14 McNulty Irish Dancers, Paddy's On the Square, Long Grove, 2PM-3PM, performance is free!

March 14 St. Patrick's Day Parade, St. Charles, 2PM, free!

March 14 Concert 1.0 with the Schaumburg Youth Symphony Orchestra, Prairie Center for the Arts, Schaumburg, 6:30PM, come early at 5:30PM for instrument petting zoo, you be the conductor and orchestra hall selfie wall, performance is one hour, recommended for families with kids in grades 2-5, tickets $10 per adults, $5 per kids, students and seniors, concert attire recommended

Sunday, March 15

March 15 Celtic Fest, McGonigal's Pub, Barrington, Family Day, Irish Dancers 2:30PM-5:00PM

March 15 Nature Films Re-Runs, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 1PM-3PM, introduce your kids to the nature films we watched when we were little, free!
