Wednesday Weekend Windup {Bring on Spring Fun}

So very excited that it is spring! I just checked on my seeds and I have plenty of seedlings sprouting! The garden is on its way......

With the weekend coming, I am sure that plenty of you are ready to get into that garden. If you have some spare time, there are some great events to check out this weekend. My favorite happens to be the prairie burning at Spring Valley Nature Center. A brilliant way to start the new season!

Here are some ideas:

ROAD TRIP: This is the last weekend to take in the PEEPS exhibit at the Racine Art Museum. Check out the details.

Whole Weekend:
 Saturday, April 11
  • April 11 Lego Robotics Team Expo, Raupp Museum, Buffalo Grove, 10AM-12PM, see the robots and demos made by several local Jr. FLL teams, free!
  • April 11 Morning Bird Walk, Trailside Museum, River Forest, 10AM, guided walk with fellow bird watchers, limited number of binoculars, (no groups please), free!
  • April 11 Chocolate Candy Drop-in Day, Volkening Heritage Farm, Spring Valley Nature Center, Schaumburg, 10AM-12PM, make your own chocolate candy creation and learn about chocolate creating in the 19th century, $2 pp 
  • April 11 Festival of Colors, Grand Pavilion River Walk, Naperville, 11AM-4PM, a festival to welcome spring, people bury the hatchet and throw worries to the wind, thowing of colors, music entertainment, vendors, ethnic food and more, bags of safe, non stain colors are supplied with $2 donation, outside colors are prohibited, free admission
  • April 11 Laura Ingalls Wilder Day, Blackberry Farm, Aurora, 12PM-3PM, pretend to live like Laura Ingall's Wilder, candle dipping, make cornbread, sewing, blacksmithing and more,  $4.50 per resident and $7 per nonresident
  • April 11 Sunset Fire and Picnic on the Prairie, Spring Valley Nature Center, 6:00PM-8:30PM, enjoy a picnic and listen to a brief demo about prairie burning and see a portion of the prairie burned (at a safe distance), bring a picnic or there will be grilled items for purchase, $12 per family or $3 pp, raindate 4/18/15, *One of our favorite experiences--see our review. It may get chilly, so bundle up.*
 Sunday, April 12
  • April 12 Great Midwest Train Show, DuPage County Fairgrounds, 9AM-3PM, about 180 exhibitors, train displays, trains to operate, train models, $7 pp, kids 12 and under are free!
  • April 12 Barrington Community Expo, Barrington High School, 11AM-4PM, meet local businesses, hands-on STEM activities, free admission and parking
  • April 12 Bare Bones, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 1PM, look closely at animal bones and see what they reveal about animals, free
