Wednesday Weekend Update: {Art, a Pow Wow, Disc Golf, Scavenger Hunt & More}

Summer is here! Some of the kiddos are already out and most will be out by next week! I am hoping for many great weather days ahead to enjoy summer fun! There are plenty of events this weekend to take advantage of and to enjoy a summer weekend! We do have a list of 16 Ideas for Free Summer Fun in the Chicago Suburbs to help you through the weekdays. Here is a list of 100 Days of Summer Fun over at O the Places We Go. We will be adding some more posts as summer goes along, so keep posted!
Here is a look at our picks for the weekend. Plenty of gems!

ROAD TRIP: Rockford AirFest June 6-7 featuring the Blue Angels. Tickets are $40. Online ticket sales are over but there are discounted tickets available certain locations in Rockford through June 5.

  • May 23-Sept 7 Butterflies and Blooms, Chicago Botanic Garden, 10AM-5PM, $6 per adult, $5 per senior, $4 per child 3-12, 2 and under free, members get $1 discount, parking $30 per car on weekends
Thursday, June 4
  • June 4 Doggy Paddle, Beck Lake, Des Plaines, 6PM-8PM, dogs and their owners are invited to paddle together, limited amount of canoes to borrow, reserve your spot, free!
  • June 4-7 Taste of Wheaton, food vendors, kids activities, carnival, free admission, check fee for carnival rides
Friday, June 5
  • June 5 Picnic in the Park, North School Park, Arlington Heights, 4:30PM-7:30PM, moonwalks, inflatable slide, balloon artists, micro reality stock car racing, face painting and more, activities are free, food trucks will be visiting.

Saturday, June 6
  • June 6-7 Annual American Indian Pow Wow, Busse Woods. 10AM-7PM June 6, 10AM-5PM June 7, Native American Dance, drumming, food, wares and more, adults $15, kids & seniors $10, 5 and under free!
  • June 6 National Trails Day, Palatine Public Library, 9AM-11AM, help clean up the bike trail to celebrate the environment, Froggy from the books will come at 10:30AM to read a story, raffles, goody bags, snacks and water will be provided, free!
  • June 6 World Environment Day at Chicago Botanic Garden, Glencoe, 10AM-4PM, family friendly performances, drop in activities at the Esplanade, Native Plant Garden and Fruit and Vegetable Garden, Farmer's Market, recycle electronics and plastics, vase collection and more, $30 per car parking, free admission
  • June 6-7 Promenade of Art, Arlington Heights, 10AM-5PM, art displays, demos and artwork for sale, kids activities, live music, food vendors, free admission!
  • June 6-7 Annual Festival of Fine Arts, Graue Mill, Oak Brook, 10AM-4PM, over 50 local artists, free admission
  • June 6 Opening of new One Arlington Apartments, Arlington Heights, 1PM-4PM, appetizers, balloon artist, face painting, scavenger hunt and more--free!
  • June 6 Stone Hunt, Lizzadro Museum, Elmhurst, 2PM, hunt for minerals among more common rocks, $5 pp, reservations recommended, participants keep minerals found
  • June 6 Disc Golf Clinic, Magreth Riemer Reservoir, Palatine, 4:30PM, free

  • June 7 Disc Golf Tournament, Magreth Riemer Reservoir, Palatine, 9:30AM-4PM, must register by June 5, fees depending on division
  • June 7 Family Day at the Illinois Holocaust Museum, Skokie, 11AM-2:30PM, gallery tours, art activities, refreshments, $12 per adult, $8 seniors and students 12-18, $6 for kids 5-11, reserve spots online
  • June 7 Nature Scavenger Hunt, Park Center, Glenview, 11AM-3PM, search for hidden clues while exploring Fuller Air Station Prairie and Gallery Park, pick up map at center 11AM-2PM, free!
  • June 7 Spring Valley Country Fair, Volkening Heritage Farm, Schaumburg, 12PM-4PM, an old fashioned country fair, $3 pp, $12 per family, kids 3 and younger are free!
