Wednesday Weekend Windup {Fun Times Ahead}

We have been having such lovely summer weather! Hopefully, it continues into the weekend! Here is a look at some fun events this weekend:

  • August 14 Movie in the Park: Big Hero 6, Recreation Park, Arlington Heights, 6:30PM-10:30PM, bring a picnic and enjoy picnic games (starting at 7:15PM), movie starts at 8:30PM, free
Saturday, August 15:
  • August 15 Hummingbird Festival, Sagawau Environmental Preserve, Lemont, 8:30AM-3:00PM, learn about hummingbirds, enjoy games, view demos, see how they are banded for research and more, free!
  • August 15-16 Blackberry Farm Civil War Days, Blackberry Farm, Aurora, 9:30AM-5:15PM Sat, 11AM-4PM Sun, simulated battle, Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln visit, 1880's activities and more, residents $4.50 for kids and seniors, $5 adults, $7 and $8 respectively for nonresidents, under 2 free
  • August 15-16 Malott Japanese Garden Summer Festival, Chicago Botanic Garden, 10AM-2PM, tea ceremony, harp, storytelling, kids crafts and more, check schedule, free, parking is $30 per car

  • August 15-16 Festival of the Horse and Drum, Kane County Fairground, St. Charles, 10AM-10PM Sat, 11AM-6PM Sun, cultural celebration, equestrian events, 16 and over $15, kids under 16 $7, 5 & under free

  • August 15-16 Theatre-Hikes: Clue the Musical, Morton Arboretum, 1PM, Theatre-Hikes are a great way to enjoy nature, a little exercise and theater! We have been to several theatre hikes and have enjoyed each of them! A theater experience like no other! The first Sunday of the month features a low impact hike. To learn a little more, read our post on Theatre-Hikes from last season! Tickets are $10 per adult, $5 per child for members, $20 and $10 respectively for non. Tickets include admission to the Morton Arboretum. Children under 2 are free.

  • August 15 Jazz Patio, Deer Park Town Center, 1:30PM-8:00PM, live jazz, wine and beer for purchase, free admission

  • August 16 One Last Summer Adventure, Heller Nature Center, Highland Park, 3PM-7PM, learn to us GPS to find hidden clues, complete challenges, bring dinner for after, $12 pp, must register!
  • August 16 Movie and Tailgate, Remember the Titans, Palatine, 6PM tailgate fun, movie starts at 8:30PM, free!
