Wednesday Weekend Windup {Plants, Wolves, Big Trucks, Kites and More!}

Planning for the weekend? Here are my picks for the weekend including two parades! Plenty of plant sales if you are getting your gardening on!
  • March 19-May 15 Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens' tropical conservatory is aflutter with butterflies! A special emergence area allows visitors to witness the butterfly life cycle as butterflies emerge from their chrysalises. Enjoy a peaceful stroll among the butterflies admiring the conservatories water features and sculptures. Adults $6 residents/$8 non, Seniors, Veterans and ages 5-18 $4/$6, ages 3-4 $1/$2, age 2 and under are free.
  • April 8-September 25 Ribbit! The Exhibit, Morton Arboretum, Lisle, 23 larger-than-life copper frog sculptures of frogs performing different activities throughout the arboretum, free with admission, $14 Adults ages 18–64, $12 Seniors ages 65+ , $9 Youth ages 2–17 (discounted admission on Wednesdays)

  • May 15 Plant Sale at The Grove, Glenview, 10AM-4PM, purchase perennenials, flowering pots, natives and more
  • May 15 Kite Flying AND Touch A Truck, Ty Warner Park, Westmont, 11AM-4PM, explore big trucks, watch Chicago Kite Fly demos, participate in a Candy Drop (at 2PM), bring a kite, opportunities to build your own kite, 
  • May 15 Opening of Kids Community Garden, Trinity Lutheran Church, Rolling Meadows, 11:30AM, ribbon cutting for garden, games, make crafts, complimentary picnic lunch
  • May 15 Norwegian Constitution Day Parade, Hodges Park, Park Ridge, 12PM-4PM, parade starts at 1 PM, folk dancers, local marching bands, singing groups. Scandinavian vendors and displays, kids activities, refreshments and more, free admission
  • May 15 Flying 4 Kids: Kite Fly and Family Picnic, Bock Neighborhood Center, Schaumburg, 12PM-1:30PM, pack your own picnic basket, bring your kite or build one from kits, $7 per resident, $10 per non
  • May 15 Elmhurst Museum Day, 1PM-5PM, special activities and free admission to Elmhurst museums, activities at library and Wilder Park Conservatory as well, the Elmhurst Art Museum's galleries will be closed but pick up free admission for another time--there will be an art activity for kids, a free trolley will take you around
  • May 15 Birds of Prey, River Trail Nature Center, 1:30PM, learn characteristics that help our native birds survive, live raptors on display, free
  • May 15 Lilac Parade, Lombard, 1:30PM-3:30PM, free
