Wednesday Weekend Windup {Swedish Day, Midsommar, Tastes & More!}

We are officially in fest season! Plenty of fests this weekend plus free admission for Dads to Old World Wisconsin on Father's Day--I highly recommend taking advantage if you are up for the trip!

  • April 8-September 25 Ribbit! The Exhibit, Morton Arboretum, Lisle, 23 larger-than-life copper frog sculptures of frogs performing different activities throughut the arboretum, free with admission, $14 Adults ages 18–64, $12 Seniors ages 65+ , $9 Youth ages 2–17 (discounted admission on Wednesdays)
  • May 28-Sept 5 Butterflies and Blooms opens at Chicago Botanic Garden, 10AM-5PM, enjoy immersing yourself in the live butterfly exhibit, adults $6, seniors $5, kids $4 (3-12), 2 and under free, discount for members, packs available, $25 parking per car on weekdays, $30 weekends if not members
  • June 18-July 4 Lego Americana Road Show, Northbrook Court

  • June 17-18 Taste of Des Plaines, live music, entertainment, food from local restaurants
  • June 17-18 The Highland Games, Itasca, check previous post for more details on prices, etc.
  • June 17-19 Elgin Ribfest, family fun including touch-a-truck, Home Depot kids workshop, car show and more, live music, check schedule

Saturday, June 18:
  • June 18-19 Brickworld at Renaissance Convention Center, Schaumburg, displays, play area, buy minifigs, sets and accessories, $12 pp, $9 for military & seniors, 3 and under free, 10AM-4PM Sat, 10AM-3PM Sun
  • June 18 Juneteenth, Sand RidgeNature Center, South Holland, 10AM-3PM, historical Underground Railroad Program, interpretive hikes, traditional music, period recipe samples, crafts & more, free
  • June 18 Open House, Big Run Wolf Ranch, Lockport, 10AM-4PM, $6 pp, visit with animals, Jim Nesci's cold-blooded creatures, raffles to bottle feed wolf pups, music, entertainment, food for purchase
  • June 18-19 Custer Fair, Evanston, 10AM-9PM, live entertainment, artists, food vendors, free admission, kids activities, check schedule
  • June 18 Art in Bloom, Cantigny Park, Wheaton, 10AM-4PM, $10 parking
  • June 18 Ice Cream Social and The Little Mermaid viewing at Norton's U.S.A., Barrington, free Ice Cream Social 8PM-9PM, free movie starts at 9PM, bring chairs and blankets

Sunday, June 19:
  • June 19 Scandinavian Midsommar Celebration, Old World Wisconsin, Eagle, 10AM-3PM, free Scandinavian activities on the green and Norwegian Farm, if you want to see the museum (which I highly recommend) admission is: Adults (18-64) $19; children (5-17) $10 (children 4 and under are free); senior citizens (65 and over) $16 but free for fathers since it is Father's Day!
  • June 19 Swedish Day, Good Templar Park, Geneva, 9AM-4PM, Maypole, Viking Encampment, Cottage Walk, Arts & Crafts Fair, lots more, $5 pp
  • June 19 Father's Day Sundaes at Naper Settlement, Naperville, 1PM-4PM, (sundaes served 2PM-3:30PM and limited to first 200 visitors), free with admission, admission is $12/adult, $10/senior (62+), $8/youth (4-12) Naperville residents* and members are free 
  • June 19 Feathered Fathers, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 1PM, roles fathers play in the animal kingdom, short hike looking for dads at work, free
  • June 19 River Round Up, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 1:30PM, bring a change of shoes--you'll be jumping in the river to see what lives below the surface
  • Also, Libertyville Days and Elgin Ribfest from above.
