Wednesday Weekend Windup {Reenactments, Oz, Scandinavia Day & More}

Who is ready for the weekend? I know I am! Here are my picks for fun this weekend--there are a lot of really interesting and unique ones!
  • April 8-September 25 Ribbit! The Exhibit, Morton Arboretum, Lisle, 23 larger-than-life copper frog sculptures of frogs performing different activities throughout the arboretum, free with admission, $14 Adults ages 18–64, $12 Seniors ages 65+ , $9 Youth ages 2–17 (discounted admission on Wednesdays)
  • Through 9/17 Butterfly House at Peck Farm, Geneva, Monday-Saturday 9AM-5PM, Sunday 12PM-4PM, $2 suggested donation, $5 per family, weather dependent
Friday, September 9
  • September 9-11 Midwest Oz Fest, Odyssey Fun Farm, Tinley Park, corn maze, yellow brick road, characters, mini production Sat & Sun, speakers, hay rides, petting zoo, corn cannons, zipline and more, $9 per day, $23 for 3 day pass
  • September 9-10 Itasca Oktoberfest, Downtown Orchard St, Itasca, German food & music, kids corner, check schedule, free admission
  • September 9-11 Festival of the Vine, Geneva, kids activities and craft fair on Sat & Sun, see website for more info
Saturday, September 10
  • September 10-11 Civil War Reenactment, Hainesville, battles, bivouacs, period music, historic figures, local history talks, free admission & parking
  • September 10 Tails on the Trails, Morton Arboretum, Lisle, 7AM-sunset dogs are welcome on trails with owners, dogs must have current vaccinations, be leashed and play well with others, must stay on designated trails, $5 per dog, owners pay normal admission, portion of dog's fee goes to dog rescue, dog activities & pet expo 10AM-4PM
  • September 10 Free Bird Walk, Beck Lake, Glenview, 8AM-10AM, come birdwatch with The Wildbird Shack during fall migration, children 8 and over welcome but must be accompanied by adult, free but please reserve a spot at info@wildbirdshack.com.
  • September 10-11 Downer's Grove, Art Festival, 10AM-5PM, art, live music, food, kids craft, free admission
  • September 10-11 An Art Affair Around the Square, Towne Square, Palatine, 10AM-5PM, art, live music (12PM-5PM), local food, free admission
  • September 10-11 Tractors for Charity Tractor Show, Stade's Farm, McHenry, 10AM-6PM, free admittance to tractor show but donation recommended, tractor pull on Sunday--donation fee, craft fair, $15/person for farm activities including corn maze, pumpkin cannon, hayrides and more, $10 for those 64+, 2 and younger are free
  • September 10-11 Revolutionary War Reenactment, Cantigny Park, Wheaton, free admission with $10 parking, encampment, demos, 10AM-5:30PM Sat, 10AM-4PM Sun
  • September 10-11 Opening of Regenstein Learning Campus, Chicago Botanic Garden, Glencoe, 10AM-4PM, classroom demos, playing in Kleinman Family Cove, walk and talk in Nature Play Garden, Windy City Harvest farm stand and more, free, $30 per car parking
  • September 10-11 A River Thru History, Des Plaines Valley Rendezvous, Willow Springs, 10AM-5PM, a look at frontier life, reenactments, crafts, canoe races, games and more, $10 pp, age 62+ and kids 6-17, under 6 are free, cash only
  • September 10-11 Deer Park Art Show, Deer Park, 10AM-5PM Sat, 11AM-5PM Sun, free admission
  • September 10 Barrington Street Fest, Cook and Station St, Barrington, 12PM-9PM, live music, food vendors, kids zone, free admission
  • Sept 10 Randhurst Street Fest, Mount Prospect, 12PM-5PM, classic cars, live music, dancers, kids activities, food tastes, free admission
  • September 10 Free Trail Walk, The Grove, Glenview, 2PM-3PM, guided trail walk
  • Also, Itasca Oktoberfest, Festival of the Vine and Oz Fest from above.
Sunday, September 11
  • September 11 Scandinavian Day Festival, Vasa Park, South Elgin, 10AM-6PM, live entertainment, traditional food, dances, music, crafts, living history, children's activities and more, $10 per person, children 12 and under are free
  • Also, Oz Fest, Civil War Reenactment, Revolutionary War Reenactment, Art Affair, Tractor Show, Regenstein Learning Campus Opening, Des Plaines Valley Rendezvous, Deer Park Art Show, Festival of the Vine and Downer's Grove Art Festival.
All weekend Fall Festivals at Stade's and Richardson's Corn Maze.
