Wednesday Weekend Windup {A Spooktacular Halloween Weekend and more!}

Ghost and goblins are starting to come out in full force! Here are my favorite events this weekend -- great ways to enjoy fall and Halloween:

Thursday, October 20
  • October 20-23 Haunted Hole-O-Ween, Mountain View Mini Golf, Des Plaines, play mini golf on a haunted course, $10 per person, see website for more info
  • October 20-23 Night of 1,000 Jack-O-Lanterns, Chicago Botanic Garden, Glencoe, trails of lighted hand carved pumpkins, costumed characters, ghostly model trains, times vary, must sign up for time, $12/member $14 non for adults, $12/$14 kids, 2 years old and under are free, parking $30 on weekends, $25 weekdays, check website for more info
Friday, October 21
  • October 21 Monster's Bash Free Halloween Party, Weiss Community Center, Mount Prospect, 4PM-7PM, decorate pumpkins, trick-or-treat, play games, see a magic show, warm by the bonfire, take a hayride and more, free
  • October 21 Halloween Spooktacular, Park Center, Glenview, 5:30PM-8:00PM, family-friendly indoor Halloween party for ages 2-10, inflatables, entertainment, games and more, $5 pp, costumes optional, parents must accompany child
  • Also, Night of 1,000 Jack-O'Lanterns.
Saturday, October 22
  • October 22 Pokemon Go Halloween Gathering, Hoffman Estates, Black Bear Park, 9AM-10:30AM, come in costume, win prizes, hunt for Pokemon, register at event, free
  • October 22 Living Cemetery, Main Street Cemetery, Downer's Grove, 10AM-12PM, costumed actors portaying various figures of different ages and walks of life, free
  • October 22 Food Truck World Series, Northbrook Court, 11AM-4PM
  • October 22 Owl Visit with local naturalist and author Mark Spreyer, Norton's U.S.A., Barrington, 2PM-3:30PM, free
  • October 22 Nocturne Paint Out, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 3PM-9PM, watch painters painting in plein air as the sun sets, artists will be painting 3:30PM-5:30PM before going into Nature Center for fun, light refreshments, meet artists, free
  • October 22 Zombie Apocalypse, Wheeler Park, Geneva, 5PM-8:30PM, (5PM-6PM is milder for families with younger children), dodge zombies and reach the vaccination point, register by 10/21 to guarantee spot, $9 per resident, $14 per non resident
  • October 22 Suburban Horror Story: Final Destination, Lincoln Center, Downer's Grove, 7:30PM-10:30PM, for those 10 years old and older, $8 at the door
  • Also, Night of 1,000 Jack-O'Lanterns.
Sunday, October 23
  • October 23 SCARCE Green Fair, DuPage County Fairgrounds, Wheaton, 10AM-4PM, green ideas for home improvement, STEM and STEAM activities, kids corner, eco vendors, food trucks, Nature Cat 11AM-2PM, $5 pp admission
  • October 23 Croctoberfest, Wildlife Discovery, Center, Lake Forest, 10AM-3PM, short talks on crocs and kin, visit with some local residents of the center, Jim Nesci and his alligator will visit 10AM-12PM, face painting, craft vendors and more, $10 pp donation requested, portion goes towards crocodile conservation efforts
  • October 23 The Un-haunted Forest, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 1:30PM, come in costume for a magical hike around the forest, halloween treat at the end, $1 per child, registration required, call:  847-824-8360
  • October 23 Halloween Spooktacular, Northbrook YMCA, 2PM-5PM, costume contest, haunted hallways, sensory stations, dance party and more, free for Y-members, $20 per family for nonmembers, non-perishable food donations encouraged
  • October 23 Trunk-or-Treat, Immanuel Lutheran and First United Methodist of Palatine, 3PM-5:30PM, trunk-or-treating, exhibits by Busy Brains, fun Halloween games, inflatable, cider and doughnuts while supplies last, costumes optional but fun, nonperishable food items for donation encouraged, free
  • October 23 Pumpkin Flotilla, Lake Ellyn Park, Glen Ellyn, 4PM-7PM, pumpkin carving demos, food & entertainment, arts and crafts, inflatables, pumpkin recipe competition, pumpkn flotilla, free admission, $2 armband for some activities
  • Also, Night of 1,000 Jack-O'Lanterns.
