Wednesday Weekend Windup {Orchid Show, Mardi Gras & More}

Looking forward to the weekend? Here are a few events to have on your radar:
  • February 11-March 26 The Orchid Show, Chicago Botanic Garden, Orchids in Vogue, some days feature live music, some hands-on elements, dress made of organic materials including orchids and more, adults $10/$12 for members/nonmembers; $8/$10 for kids and seniors; parking is $30 per car; you may purchase tickets and parking online
Friday, February 24:
  • February 24 Freeze Fest, The Zone, River Trails Park District, Mount Prospect, 5PM-8PM, free crafts, bouncy houses, archery, turf games and more, free
Saturday, February 25:
  • February 25-26 Festival of Arts and Crafts, Harper College, Palatine, 9AM-4PM Sat, 10AM-4PM Sun, 200 booths of Midwestern crafters, $5 pp admission
  • February 25 This Old Birdhouse, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 1PM, $5, prepare for nesting season by building a new birdhouse, plans provided, register by calling  847-381-6592, good for kids 10 and up, 1 house per family
  • February 25 & 26 Sap's Rising, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 1:30PM, take a walk in the maple forest and learn about how maple syrup is made, free
  • February 25 Mardi Gras Skate Party, Orbit Skate Center, Palatine, 7PM, mask contest, balloon drop, admission is $8.50 pp, $4 for skate rental if needed
Sunday, February 26:
  • February 26 Black History Month Underground Railroad Hike, Sand Ridge Nature Center, South Holland, 11AM-3PM, interactive journey hike, hike follows a route used in the Underground Railroad, free
  • February 26 Animal Encounters: Coyote, Red Oak Nature Center, Batavia, 1PM-2PM, learn about the animals that live at Red Oak especially the coyote, recommended for kids 5 and up accompanied with an adult, $2 pp
  • Sap's Rising and Festival of Arts & Crafts from above.
