The Orchid Show at Chicago Botanic Garden Uplifts the Spirit
The Orchid Show at Chicago Botanic Garden is the perfect winter uplift to help us bridge the end of winter into spring. This year's show will run February 9 - March 24, 2019. Opening weekend is just in time for a Valentine's Day visit! A perfect opportunity to bask in nature's eye candy!
During The Orchid Show, the conservatories at Chicago Botanic Gardens and adjacent rooms are full with delicate and graceful orchids of all shapes, colors and patterns. Within the conservatories, they are interwoven into existing plant arrangements. Beautiful! Other displays include facts about orchids and their uses. In the past, their have been interactive portions. Displays feature over 10,000 orchids. Incredible -- especially for me because I don't think I can even get one to grow!
There are a variety of activities associated with the show including:
- Morning music with the orchids 10AM-11AM Tuesdays and Thursdays.
- Photographer's hours 8:15AM-9:45AM; check website for details.
- Evening with Orchids featuring tastings of local spirits while enjoying the show on March 13; see details on website for fees and times, must be over 21.
- Orchids After Hours: Select evenings with tropics-inspired drinks and light fare for purchase; see websites for tickets.
- There is a garden shop during the show.
- Post Orchid Show Plant Sale on March 28
The orchids are stunning and masterfully blended in a variety of displays. You definitely will want to take pictures! Every year, I think I am going to just walk around and be in the moment. Every year, I end up taking dozens of pictures. Each orchid is a work of art. The Orchid Show is a fabulous experience and a way to enjoy warm weather without leaving Chicago! This year's theme is In The Tropics, so I am sure that visitors will be swept away from winter for just a little bit!
Tickets are:
Adults: $10/$12
Seniors 62+: $8/$10
*Children age 3–12: $8/$10
Parking is $20-$25 per car depending on day
