Maple sugaring season in Illinois will soon be here! Celebrate the sweet gift of the sugar maple at these events throughout the Chicago suburbs -- check the list soon, you will have to register for some:

Sap's Rising: February 23 & 24, March 2 & 3, 9 & 10, 16  River Trail Nature Center, Northrbook, 1:30PM, walk in the maple forest and learn how maple sugaring is done, free

Tapping into Nature, February 24, Coral Woods, Marengo, 9AM-10:30AM, volunteers will tap trees, children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult, must register, $5 pp resident, $7 non, register by February 22


Maple Sugaring Days: March 2-3, LeRoy Oakes, St. Charles,12PM-3PM, learn to tap maple trees, learn about sugar bush folklore, see sap thickening into syrup over a fire, take a nature hike, learn how to distinguish trees, taste local syrup, free


Maple Syrup Magic March 2, Plum Creek Nature Center, Beecher, 1PM-3PM, learn how maple syrup is made, learn how to identify sugar maples and taste maple syrup, must register call 708.946.2216 by February 28.


Maple Sugaring: March 2-4, March 7-11, March 14-18, March 21-25, March 28-30, Kline Creek Farm, West Chicago, 1PM-4PM, try your hand at tapping with tools from the 1890's, watch maple sugar thicken, taste real maple syrup, free


Festival of the Sugar Maples: March 2-3 and March 9-10, Coral Woods Conservation Area, Marengo, 10AM-3PM, learn how trees produce sap and how it is collected, see syrup made in the evaporator house, hikes, free admission, tours start every 15 minutes


Maple Syrup Hikes, March 9-24 on weekends, Ryerson Woods, Riverwoods, 12PM-2PM every half hour, see tapping in process, see how tap turns to sap, $6 pp, children under 3 free, must register: 847-968-3321

Maple Syrup Harvest, March 10, Heller Nature Center, Highland Park, 10AM-11AM or 11:30AM-12:30PM, for ages 6 and up, listen to maple syrup folklore, tap a tree, enjoy a pancake and maple syrup after, $12 pp, must register by March 9

Sugar Bush Fair, March 16-17 Spring Valley Nature Center, Schaumburg, 9AM-12PM, demos of maple syrup production, a pioneer maple sugaring camp, puppet show, hayride, admission is free, also a breakfast with pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee, $4.50 for half stack, $6.50 for full if register before, $6 and $8 respectively at the door


Get Sticky! Maple Syrup Day: March 16, Fullersburg Woods, Oakbrook 10AM-2PM, 75-minute guided stroll through the woods to learn about how maple syrup is produced, tours start every 20 minutes, $10 per person, must register--register online


Maple Fest: March 16, Red Oak Nature Center, Batavia, 9AM-2PM, learn how people tapped trees for maple sugar, maple tapping demos, tours every hour, maple snacks and hot beverages for sale, $2 pp, register online


Simply Sweet Family Hike: March 16 or 17, Morton Arboretum, Lisle, select times between 1PM and 3:30PM, on a family stroll learn about how maple syrup is made, make a maple inspired snow globe, taste maply treats, make maple ice cream, enjoy a toasty fire, $19 pp ($16 member), must register.


47th Annual Maple Syrup Fest: March 17, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 11AM-3PM, fun spring activities including crafts, games, tree tapping and maple syrup history, free
