Family Fun in the Chicago Suburbs March 30-31, 2019

The weekend is on the way! Here are my picks for family fun this weekend:


  • January 26-April 7 Chagall for Children, Arlington Heights Memorial Library, 14 interactive exhibits encouraging you to insert yourself into Chagall's work, there are special sensory-friendly hours, the exhibit is free and great for kids ages 2-12, take a peek: https://www.alittletimeandakeyboard.com/2019/01/chagall-for-children.html
  • Maple Sugaring: March 14-18, March 21-25, March 28-31, Kline Creek Farm, West Chicago, 1PM-4PM, try your hand at tapping with tools from the 1890's, watch maple sugar thicken, taste real maple syrup, free
  • March 18-April 13 Barrington Shoppers Egg Hunt -- find eggs hidden throughout Barrington
  • March 23 - June 2 Simply Spring: The Butterfly Exhibit at Nicholas Conservatory, Rockford, go early as space is limited, adults $6 (Resident), $8 (Non-Resident), senior $4 (Resident), $6 (Non-Resident), Veterans $4 (Resident), $6 (Non-Resident), ages 5-17 $4 (Resident), $6 (Non-Resident). ages 3-4 $2 (Resident), $3 (Non-Resident), ages 2 and under free ($4 admission on Tropical Tuesdays), enjoy butterflies flying around in a tropical setting without leaving the Midwest!
Saturday, March 30:
  • March 30 Annual Princesses and Superheroes Day, Volo Auto Museum, 10AM-5PM, mingle with your favorite characters, kids in costume receive free admission, regular admission for others
  • March 30 Buzzards Day, Willowbrook, Glen Ellyn, 10AM-2PM, learn about turkey vultures, enjoy activities and meet vultures face to face, free
  • March 30 Try It Family Zumba, Arlington Heights Memorial Library, 11:30AM-12:30PM, free but must register, wear comfortable clothing
  • March 30 Trail Marker Tree Blessing at the Grove, Glenview, 12PM, blessing ceremony for new sculpture, ceremony will be in pavilion with fires regardless of weather
  • March 30-31 Open Season Preview, Naper Settlement, Naperville, 1PM-4PM, historic buildings will be open with costumed interpreters, $12/Adult, $10/Senior, $8/Youth, 4-12 years old. Members free. Naperville residents free.
Sunday, March 31:
  • March 31 Searching for Sasquatch, River Trail Nature Center, 12PM-2PM, fun scavenger hunt available throughout the day, free
  • March 31 Animal Tricksters, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 1PM, with April Fool's around the corner, see how animals play "tricks" with camouflage, mimicry, feigning death and more, free
  • March 31 Mane in Heaven Fundraiser, IPIC South Barrington, meet minis 2PM, appetizers 2:30PM, DUMBO showing at 4PM, $25 pp, register online
  • March 31 Frogwatch USA Training, Cosley Zoo, Wheaton, 3PM-5PM, training to monitor a wetland 3 minutes multiple evenings during breeding season, $7 per person or $20 per household (group)
