Chicago Suburbs Weekend Family Fun April 26-28:

The weekend is almost here! There are a lot of events this weekend, many honoring Earth Day! Take a peek at my picks:

  • Road Trip: March 23 - June 2 Simply Spring: The Butterfly Exhibit at Nicholas Conservatory, Rockford, go early as space is limited, adults $6 (Resident), $8 (Non-Resident), senior $4 (Resident), $6 (Non-Resident), Veterans $4 (Resident), $6 (Non-Resident), ages 5-17 $4 (Resident), $6 (Non-Resident). ages 3-4 $2 (Resident), $3 (Non-Resident), ages 2 and under free ($4 admission on Tropical Tuesdays), enjoy butterflies flying around in a tropical setting without leaving the Midwest!

  • April 26-28 Open House to Make Glass Pendants, Patterson Glassworks, Mundelein, 10AM-4PM, $35 each, first come, first serve
  • April 26-28 Arbor Weekend Celebration, Morton Arboretum, 11AM-4PM, celebrate in the Children's Garden, plant tree seedlings, investigate tree cookies, identify trees, self-guided, free with admission (on Friday April 26 only -- dress like a tree and get in free)
  • April 26 Walpurgis Night, Volkening Heritage Farm, Schaumburg, 6PM-8PM, campfire, celebrate spring and old German tradition involving witches, horse drawn wagon rides, guests receive a hot dog and marshmallow to roast, $7 pp, kids 3 and under are free

  • April 27-28 Artistry in Wood, Cantigny Park, Wheaton, 9AM-4PM, fine art exhibition of wood carvings, wood burned art and more, $5 parking per car
