Festivals, Mexican Folkloric Show, Blues on the Fox, Wizards, Highland Games and More Fun in the Chicago Suburbs June 13-16, 2019

Happy Father's Day! This Father's Day Weekend is full of tons of fun including all sorts of festivals, the Highland Games, Mexican Folkloric Show, Wizards, Build a Bird House, Blues on the Fox and much more! Here are my picks for the weekend:

  • May 18-September 21 Butterfly House, Peck Farm, Geneva, Mon-Sat 9AM-5PM, Sun 12PM-5PM, closed Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day, $2 pp donation, $5 per family
  • May 25-September 2 Butterflies and Blooms, Chicago Botanic Garden, 10AM-5PM daily, see website for fees, weather dependent
  • May 24-September 15 Nature Connects Lego Sculptures by Sean Kenney at The Morton Arboretum, comes with regular admission, see previous post for more details
Thursday, June 13:
  • June 13-16 Libertyville Days, arts and crafts, carnival, parade June 15, car show, space adventure in honor of moon landing, watermelon eating contest and more, see schedule
Friday, June 14:
  • June 14-16 Craft Glass Planets for Dad, Patterson Glassworks, 10AM-4PM, first come, first serve, $65 pp
  • June 14-15 Highland Games, Itasca, music, caber toss, weight throw, haggis hurling, rugby, bagpipes, Celtic vendors, dogs of Scotland, food and more, see website for admission info
  • June 14-15 Elgin Rib Fest
  • June 14-15 Blues on the Fox, RiverEdge, Aurora, blues festival, $20 per person per day, kids 12 and under are free, see website for tix
  • June 14-15 Naper Nights, Naper Settlement, Naperville, evening of live music, $15 per adult, $10 kids 4-12, free for those under 4
Saturday, June 15:
  • June 15 Wizards Weekend Day, Antioch, kids school of magic, scavenger hunt, costume contest, wizard shops and more, see website for more info and to register
  • June 15 Busse Woods Earth, Air and Fire Day, 9AM-12PM, fishing derby, casting lessons, tree climb, visits from Shedd and Brookfield Zoo, must register if you want to be in the fishing derby, free
  • June 15 Heritage Farm Local Market Day, Heritage Farm, Schaumburg, 9AM-12PM, stop at the museum shop early to shop locally grown and produced products including the farm's fresh eggs
  • June 15-16 Custer Fair, Evanston, live music, local food vendors, family fun and more
  • June 15-16  Dairy Month, Klein Creek Farm, West Chicago, 10AM-4PM, learn why shorthorn cows were bred, how to milk a cow, why windmills were vital and more, cooking demos on weekend, free,check facebook for up-to-date activity info
  • June 15 Mexican Folkloric Festival, Cantigny, Wheaton, 10AM-5PM, music, dancers, cuisine, arts and handicrafts and more, $10 parking 
  • June 15  Canyon Tour, Sagawau Environmental Learning Center, 10AM, must register
  • June 15 Juneteenth Celebration, Sand Ridge Nature Center, South Holland, 10AM-3PM, Underground Railroad hikes, wild edibles display, period recipe samples, crafts and more, free
  • June 15 Build a Bird House, Wildbird Shack, Mount Prospect, 10:30AM-12PM, for kids with guardian, $45 per pair, includes all materials and snacks, must register
  • June 15 Free Trail Walks at The Grove, The Grove, Glenview, 2PM, guided trail walk
Sunday, June 16:
  • June 16 Viking Ship Open Day, Good Templar Park, Geneva, 10AM-4PM, tour the Viking ship replica use int the 1893 Columbian Exposition, $5 pp, $3 for students, kids are free
  • June 16 Father's Day BBQ, Blackberry Farm, Aurora, 11AM-12:30PM, $20 pp, enjoy a special BBQ lunch for Dad and then stay on the farm for fun, must register
  • June 16 Walk with Me Soul Harbor Ranch, Hideway Brew Garden, Hoffman Estates, 1PM-2PM, take Dad out for a beer and a walk with Soul Harbor's mini horses!
  • June 16 Dads at Work, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 1PM, learn about the roles dads play in nature and take a short hike, free
