Passport Europe, Oktoberfest, Autumn Festivals, Apple Fest and More Family Fun in the Chicago Suburbs September 20-22, 2019

The weekend is near! This time of year is certainly festival here in the Chicago suburbs! There is plenty of festing opportunities this weekend and tons of other fun. Here are my picks:
  • May 18-September 21 Butterfly House, Peck Farm, Geneva, Mon-Sat 9AM-5PM, Sun 12PM-5PM, closed Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day, $2 pp donation, $5 per family
  • September 7-November 3 Richardson Adventure Farm and the World's Largest Corn Maze
  • September 7- October 27 Shades of Autumn Festival -- plethora of fun fall activities including picking pumpkins, a pumpkin cannon, a corn maze, duck races, a hay bale climb, zip lines, slide mountain and much more
  • September 21-October 27 Pumpkin Daze, Abbey Farms, Aurora, corn maze, zip lines, log beam balance course, corn cannon, combine slide, craft beer tent on weekends, Saturday movie nights, Farmstead Emporium Store and so much more! 
Friday, September 20:
  • September 20-22 Apple Fest, Long Grove, 12PM-11PM Fri, 10AM-11PM Sat, 10AM-6PM Sun, apple themed treats, family fun and more, $5 per person. kids 12 and under receive free admission
  • September 20 Autumn Fest, Heller Nature Center, Highland Park, 4PM-7PM, hayrides, pony rides, pumpkin hunt, campfires and more, wristbands $15/adult; $20 per child or tickets for $5 each 
  • September 20-22 Oktoberfest, near Palatine Metra Station, music, beer, family day, activities and more, see website for more info
Saturday, September 21:
  • September 21 29th Annual Fall Arts & Crafts Adventure, Hodges Park, Park Ridge, 9AM-5PM, artists and demos, free admission
  • September 21-22 Passport Europe Festival, Morton Arboretum, Lisle, 10AM-3PM, take a trip around Europe, enjoy the sounds, dances, stories, sports and more of Europe, try your hand at some of the sports, stand among living statues and even enjoy food with European flair for purchase, admission is included with standard Morton Arboretum admission
  • September 21  Build a Bird House, Wildbird Shack, Mount Prospect, 10:30AM-12PM, $50 per team, build a bird house with your favorite little one, must register
  • September 21 Powwow, Naper Settlement, Naperville, share in Native American culture through dance, drumming and storytelling, historic buildings will be open during event, Sat 11AM-10PM, Sun 1PM-5PM, $12 adults, $9 seniors, $7 kids ages 3-12, under 3 free, can purchase tickets online
  • September 21 Autumn Fair, Peck Farm, Geneva, 11AM-3PM, hayrides, birds of prey, pony rides, crafts, games and more, admission is free but some activities have a small fee, also visit the Butterfly House
  • September 21  Tour Viking, Good Templar Park, Geneva, 1PM-4PM, $5 per adult, $3 per teen, ages 12 and under free, tour the replica Viking ship with a history
  • September 21 Party for the Preserves, Camp Bullfrog, Willow Springs, 3PM-9PM, canoeing, bike clinics, star gazing, nature play, animal encounters and much more, free
Sunday, September 22:
  • September 22 Oktoberfest, Highland Park, 12PM-10PM, food, music, dance, talent show, free admission
  • September 22 Heirloom Apple Fest, Durant House, LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, St. Charles, 1PM-4PM, enjoy apples that you do not see in the grocery store and explore the Durant House Museum, recommended donation $3 pp. $1 for kids
  • September 22 Birds of Prey, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 1:30PM, learn about characteristics that help birds of prey survive, live raptors will be on display, free
  • September 22 Adios Amigos Party, Spring Valley Nature Center, 2PM-4PM, releasing last of the monarchs so they can migrate to Mexico, tips on creating a butterfly garden, kids activities, free
