A Little Time and a Keyboard: A Visit to Citizens Park in Barrington

A Visit to Citizens Park in Barrington

Monday, July 27, 2015

Recently, we had a free afternoon so we decided to stretch our legs a bit at Citizens Park in Barrington. We have been there a couple of times to take our daughter to the lovely playground. This time, though, we decided to take a little hike. We knew that there was a bit of a trail in the preserve but we didn't realize how long it was. What a nice walk! It turns out, the path goes into Cuba Marsh so you can make quite a hike out of it!

Our walk started by a picturesque lake which was alive with water fowl. During our excursion, we viewed egrets and blue heron. As we turned the corner around the lake we found a nice sculpture. Totally unexpected!

We were able to walk another 15-20 minutes before it started to rain and we had to turn around. But, I have to tell you that we saw a great number of birds while it was raining. We found a new place to hike full of natural splendors!

Citizens Park itself is a great spot for a family afternoon. The park is large with plenty of fun. There is plenty of space to stretch out for a picnic. You can even take advantage of a picnic table. There also are restrooms which is always a plus!

When we visited, there was a wedding party taking pictures with the delightful backdrop. Not only does Citizens Park provide an ideal landscape for pictures but it also has various structures that can be rented for various gatherings. There are a couple of pavilions, picnic shelters and even a gazebo that you can rent. Our favorite is the treehouse. If it is not rented while you are visiting, the kids will definitely like to explore it!

The Barrington Park District does hold many family events at the park, so be on the lookout for those! In fact, the 10th Annual Children's Dog Show is coming up on Wednesday, July 29th at 5:45PM followed by a summer concert at 7:00PM. A nice place for family fun!
