The weekend is here and there are some really great events! Here are my picks for the last weekend of January:

Friday, January 26

January 26-27 Alpine Fest at Buffalo Creek Brewing, Long Grove, enjoy beer alongside a fire, winter games, hot cocoa for the kids, drawings, comfort food like poutine and more

Saturday, January 27

January 27-28 Patterson Glassworks - Make a glass heart with your sweetheart during one of Patterson Glasswork's Open Houses January 27-28 or February 3-4. Reservations are recommended. After visiting the Mundelein glass studio, head to to Tighthead Brewing Company for a couple of brews!

January 27 The Magic & Mystery of the Talking Drum, Mount Prospect Public Library, 10:30AM-11:15AM, learn how different cultures use drums to connect and communicate

January 27 & 28 Crafters Weekend, Des Plaines Public Library, Sat 10AM-4PM, Sun 1:30PM-4:30PM, drop in for instructions and materials, craft at home or at library, children must be accompanied by adult

January 27-28 Norge Ski Jump, Fox River Grove, 11AM-4PM Saturday, 12PM-4PM Sunday, purchase buttons online or at local vendors for $20, purchase at the gate for $25, buttons good for both days

Road Trip: Downtown Kenosha Snow Daze January 27 -- from 1PM-3PM see live ice sculpting - over 60 ice sculptures - free hot chocolate while supplies last

Sunday, January 28

January 28 Groundhog Day Fireside, Emily Oaks Nature Center, Skokie, 1PM-2:30PM, meet the five foot tall groundhog, learn what it means when he sees his shadow, enjoy hot chocolate, make a groundhog shadow puppet and more, $6 resident/ $8 nonresident, register online, may have room for walk ups

January 28 Insects in Winter, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 1:30PM,  look for snow fleas and learn about other winter insects

January 28 Kiwanis Freeze Fest, Crystal Lake, Hickory Hall, 10AM-2PM, dog demos, ice sculpting, hot chocolate, frozen movies and more, purchase tix online
