As a mom on the go, I am always looking for fun and affordable things to do in the 'burbs. This list is not meant to be a comprehensive list. However, it is a way for us to share with you interesting, fun, and affordable activities that we have found in the area. These are events that we have either been to in the past or we would take our kiddos to:

  • April 22 Northbrook Earth and Arbor Day Celebration, Village Green, 9AM-12PM, exhibitors, activities, live entertainment, recycling drop off, free
  • April 22 Earth Day and Recycling Extravaganza, Duane/Lorraine Parking Lot, Glen Ellyn, 9AM-1PM, Earth friendly vendors, live acoustic music, native plant sale, recycling, free 
  • April 22 Bison's Bluff Grand Opening and Earth Day Celebration, Spring Valley Nature Center, Schaumburg, 10AM-2PM, new nature play area, activites for kids, free
  • April 22 Party for the Planet, Cosley Zoo, Wheaton
  • April 22 Earth Day Celebration, Peck Farm, Geneva, 11AM-3PM, activites. games, bicycle tune ups, paper shredding, rain barrels for sale and more, free
  • April 22 Earth Day Celebration, Prairieview Education Center, Crystal Lake, 11AM-4PM, guided nature walks, games and crafts, live music, exhibitors, recycling dropoff and more, free
  • April 22 Earth Day Celebration at Historic Methodist Campground
  • April 22 Earth Day Nature Play Day, Crabtree Nature Center, 12PM-3PM, family activities in the nature play area, free
  • April 22 Earth Day Celebration, Ryerson Woods, Deerfield, 1PM-4PM, guided walks, animal visits, green building tour and more, free
  • April 22 Seeds of Love: Kindness Campaign with VOCAL, Arlington Heights Memorial Library, 2:30PM, write notes of kindness to spread out in the community, if weather and time permit notes will be distributed downtown, RSVP, free, will also be able to pick up hate has no home here signs
  • April 23 Earth Day Celebrations Around the World, Emily Oaks, Skokie, 12PM-4PM, ceremonies and rituals from around the world, native plant sale, free
  • April 23 Spring Time on the Farm, Volkening Heritage Farm, Schaumburg, 12PM-4PM, help with spring planting, wash clothes in a wash tub, see blacksmithing demos and more, $4 pp or $16 per family, kids ages 3 and under are free
  • April 23 Singing Frogs, Trailside Museum of Natural History, River Forest, 1PM, learn how to identify frogs by their songs, for adults and older kids, free
  • April 23 Celebration of Cultures, North Suburban YMCA, 2PM-4PM, dance, music and art of different cultures, food samples, free

  • Fun and affordable every week: Saturdays 11AM-3PM Free Crafts Lake Shore Learning Center
