Chicago Suburbs Family Fun

As a mom on the go, I am always looking for fun and affordable things to do in the 'burbs. This list is not meant to be a comprehensive list. However, it is a way for us to share with you interesting, fun, and affordable activities that we have found in the area. These are events that we have either been to in the past or we would take our kiddos to:
  • May 19-Sept 15 Butterfly House, Peck Farm, Geneva, 9AM-5PM Mon-Sat, Sun 12PM-5PM, closed Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day, suggested donation, $2 pp or $5 per family
  • Now-June 21 Troll Hunt at The Morton Arboretum -- see large scale trolls being made from reclaimed wood. Free with admission.
  • June 14-17 Libertyville Days
  • June 15 & 16 Taste of Des Plaines
  • June 15-16 Highland Games, Itasca
  • July 16 Volkening Lake Fest and Fishing Derby, Schaumburg, 9AM-2PM, competitive fishing derby until noon in age groups, barbecue, dj, bouncy house, paddle boating and more, $20 per person if pre-registered ($25 for nonresidents), $25 day of
  • June 16 Wizards Weekend, Antioch, have to register for some events, see website
  • June 16 Juneteenth Celebration, Sand Ridge, South Holland, 10AM-3PM, Underground Railroad interactive interpretive hikes, period food samples, music and more, free
  • June 16-17 Art in Bloom, Cantigny Park, Wheaton, 10AM-4PM, artists, hands-on art activities (slight fee), live music, food trucks, plus the lovely grounds, free admission, $10 per car parking
  • Fun and affordable every week: Saturdays 11AM-3PM Free Crafts Lake Shore Learning Center
