Who can resist a good dog story? Dog stories are always sure to put a smile on my face! So, My Very Good, My Very Bad Dog by Chicken Soup for the Soul is a very welcome addition to my book collection. A lovely little volume with plenty of stories of Fido touching hearts, saving his person, teaching valuable lessons and just plain being entertaining.

After a long day, the childhood exuberance of a dog is a much needed respite. The comfort of a dog is just what many of us need to get through life's challenges. Dogs have an amazing way of understanding when we are not feeling well, whether it by emotionally or physically. The volume includes instances where dogs detected illness in their humans, helped them get through chemo and even ushered them to the world beyond.

Many of the anecdotes reflect the unexpected yet warm narratives that erupt from our relationships with dogs. My favorite story in the volume is of a young boy that so wants a dog of his own--preferably named "Rusty." His single mother would love to give him a dog, but cannot afford one. The boy's birthday rolls around and he and his mother are out buying donuts for the special day. Outside, they find a woman crying because she must give up her puppy--"Rusty." The boy's mother thought, "Surely, this is a sign." The family ends up adopting "Rusty" and making it work.

Another favorite is about a bunny that befriends a Golden Retriever. The bunny was no slouch and could push the gentle dog around. This story reminds me of my own shelties that were quite effectively "herded" by our guinea pig. So funny!

For any animal lover, you really can't go wrong with this book! If you need a quick pick-me-up, this is a great choice!
