The weekend is nearly here! Here are some ideas for local family fun!
Ongoing:
  • February 11-March 26 The Orchid Show, Chicago Botanic Garden, Orchids in Vogue, some days feature live music, some hands-on elements, dress made of organic materials including orchids and more, adults $10/$12 for members/nonmembers; $8/$10 for kids and seniors; parking is $30 per car; you may purchase tickets and parking online
Saturday, March 25
  • March 25-26 Esconi Gem, Mineral and Fossil Show, DuPage County Fairgrounds, Wheaton, 10AM-5PM Sat, 10AM-4PM Sun, see displays, make purchases, bid, kids area -- kids 16 and under can break open a free geode, free admission
  • March 25-26 Maple Syrup Hikes, Ryerson Woods, Deerfield, various times, must register, $6 per person
  • March 25 Critter Connections & Animal Feeding Time, Wildwood Nature Center, Park Ridge, meet a critter at 10:15AM, watch feeding at 10:30AM, free
  • March 25 Spring Symphony, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 1PM, learn how to identify the sounds of animals and birds of spring, free
  • March 25-26 Dino Digs, Dinosaur Discovery Museum, Kenosha, free, fun activity where kids can dig for a dino bone, kids 3 and older
  • March 25 Blacksmithing Demonstrations, Kline Creek Farm, West Chicago, 1:30PM-3:30PM, free -- also Life on the Farm House Tours 10AM-4:00PM
  • March 25 The Great Scott Magician Extraordinaire, Arlington Heights Memorial Library, 6:30PM-7:30PM, magic that will baffle kids and adults alike, free but must register, no library card required
Sunday, March 26:
  • March 26 Bucket Bug Hunt, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 1:30PM, learn about maple sugaring history and see the bugs caught in the buckets
