Spring Staycation Idea in the Chicago Suburbs

Spring Break fun ideas in the Chicago suburbs just in time to help you plan how you are going to keep the kids busy! Here are my picks for fun during Spring Break:


***Many places will be closed on Easter so check before you go.**

All of Spring Break: Willowbrook Nature Center in Glen Ellyn, 9AM-5PM, see where local wildlife is taken to be rehabilitated, plenty of resident animals to visit with, free but donation is appreciated 

All of Spring Break: Cosley Zoo in Wheaton, 10AM-4PM, home to domestic farm animals and native wildlife, Wheaton residents are free, all kids are free, adults ages 18-54 $7, seniors 55+ $6

March 17 - June 3 Simply Spring Butterfly Exhibit, Nicholas Conservatory in Rockford, enjoy butterflies flying freely in the conservatory, witness all of the butterfly life cycle, $6 resident, $8 non, $4 and $6 for seniors, kids 5-17 and veterans, Ages 3-4 $2, under 3 free, check website for times. ***Tropical Tuesdays Admission is $3.**


March 23 & 26: Morkes Chocolate Walk in Day, Palatine, 3PM-5:30PM, create chocolate treats, $9 per person; March 27 at the Long Grove location 12PM-3PM

March 26-31 Open Season Preview Naper Settlement, Naperville, 10AM-4PM, tour historic buildings, learn from interpreters, Adults $12, Seniors (62+) $10, Youth (4-12 yrs) $8. Naperville Residents and Members are free.

March 26-30 Drop in Nature Adventures, Red Oak Nature Center, Batavia, 10AM-2PM, crafts, special hikes, games -- something new each day, free, stop at front desk for info

March 26, 29 & 30 Spring Break at The Farm, Kline Creek Farm in West Chicago, 10AM-4PM, help clean up the farm & other activities, take tour of farmhouse, free

March 26 Maple Syrup Hike, Ryerson, Riverwoods, 11AM-12PM, $6 pp, must register

March 26-30 Walk-In Spring Activities at Raupp Museum in Buffalo Grove, 1PM-3:30PM, different activity each day: March 26 Plant seeds for spring March 27 Make a Kite March 28 Make a pinwheel March 29 Make felt flowers March 30 Squawking chicken; free


March 26 Mini Maker Camp, Glenview Public Library, 2PM-4PM, ages 5 up with adult, free, drop in

March 27: Spring Breakout Adventureat Rolling Knolls in Elgin; 10AM-2PM, practice archery, explore wildlife, practice navigation skills, fish in pond, play frisbee golf free

March 27-30 Museum Curiosity Stations and Family Crafts, Dunn Museum, Libertyville, different time so check schedule, for families with kids 12 and under, $6/adult, $3/child, 3 and under free

March 27, 28, 29 Free Games at Meineke Center, Schaumburg, 2PM-3PM, for kids ages 8-13, see schedule

March 28 School Day Off Easter & Passover, Des Plaines History Center, 1PM-3PM, learn the history of these connected holidays, ages 5-12 with adult, $3 child or $2 child with membership

March 28 Magic Workshop, Barrington Area Library, 1PM-2PM, ages 5-12, must register, free

March 29 Make a Hologram, Barrington Area Library, 2PM or 3:30PM depending on age, (grades 1-3 or 4-6), must register

March 30: Free Fridays at Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art in Elmhurst, 10AM-5PM, rock and mineral specimens, carved jade and other stones, stone dioramas and more.
