It is starting to feel like summer time! There are a bunch of great events this weekend including an Art Tour in Evanston and the Magic Mini Garden in Aurora and Naperville! Here are my picks for family fun this weekend:
Ongoing:
  • March 17 - June 3 Simply Spring Butterfly Exhibit, Nicholas Conservatory in Rockford, enjoy butterflies flying freely in the conservatory, witness all of the butterfly life cycle, $6 resident, $8 non, $4 and $6 for seniors, kids 5-17 and veterans, Ages 3-4 $2, under 3 free, check website for times. ***Tropical Tuesdays Admission is $3.**
  • May 19-Sept 15 Butterfly House, Peck Farm, Geneva, 9AM-5PM Mon-Sat, Sun 12PM-5PM, closed Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day, suggested donation, $2 pp or $5 per family
  • Now-June 21 Troll Hunt at The Morton Arboretum -- see large scale trolls being made from reclaimed wood. Free with admission.
Friday, June 1:
  • June 1 End of School Campfire, Vera Meineke Nature Center, Schaumburg, 7:30PM-9:00PM, bring blankets and chairs, take a wagon ride, roast a marshmallow, s'mores kits for purchase, $2 per person admission
Saturday, June 2:
  • June 2 Bike Scavenger Hunt, Palatine, 9AM-10:30AM, some destinations will have games, $10 per team
  • June 2 KISS -- Kids Identification and Safety Seat, Kohl Children's Museum, Glenview, 10AM-2PM, touch--a-truck, get kid's ids, safety seat check and more, free, get one free museum admission if you have a safety seat check
  • June 2 Magical Mini Garden Fest, The Growing Place, Naperville, 9AM-5PM , search for Grunyon the gnome, make a fairy wish stone, hear gnome tails, make a magic wand and more, see website for fees
  • June 2 Volleyball Open House, Falcon, Palatine, 10AM-6PM, both in gym and on turf, badminton equipment available upon request, must sign waiver, free
  • June 2 Fine Line Arts Festival, Fine Line Creative Arts Center, St. Charles, 10AM-3PM, demos, try your hand at art, purchase locally made art
  • June 2-3 Japanese Festival Chicago, Forest View Educational Center, Arlington Heights, 10AM-5PM Sat, 11AM-5PM Sun, enjoy Japanese culture
  • June 2 Breed All About It, Danada, Wheaton, 12PM-4PM, self guided barn tour, meet the horses and more, free
  • June 2-3 Fine Arts Festival, Graue Mill, Oak Brook, 10AM-5PM, free admission
  • June 2 Evanston Made Artist Studio Tour, Evanston, 12PM-5PM, grab a map at any participating studio
  • June 2 Stone Hunt, Lizzadro Museum, 2PM-2:45PM, learn the difference between rocks and minerals and how to distinguish between them, $5 pp, rsvp recommended
