Family dinner at the Tap House Grill in Wheeling, Illinois

**Disclosure: I did receive a complimentary meal in order to bring you this review. No other compensation was received. All opinions are 100% my own.

Tap House Grill in Wheeling provided us with the perfect dining adventure on a rainy day. While located attached to the Ramada Plaza Wheeling Hotel near Chicago Executive Airport, Tap House Grill has a cozy ambiance.

Settling in for dinner:

There is a large patio outside which I am sure is festive during nicer weather. It may be a fun spot to see some planes from the nearby airport.

We arrived on a rainy day, so inside was a must! The booths were spacious and you felt comfortable -- not piled on top of people.

In the center of the restaurant is a sleek bar. You can see that the tap house has quite a number of beers on tap:

We settled into a booth and began exploring the menu:

Choices, choices:

The menu at Tap House Grill has so many selections! Alongside traditional brew pub fare, Tap House Grill does have quite a range of original dishes. On Mondays, the grill features a build your own
Mmmac 'n cheez . The Mmmac 'n cheez features the grill's own five cheese blend sauce. Several versions of the Mmmac 'n cheez are on the regular menu including Tap House Delight with broccoli and chicken, baked with toasted mozzarella bread crumbs. Interesting menu item!

Since we were at a tap house, we had to order a beer. My husband did the honors and, of course, enjoyed!

Immediately, I keyed in on the hummus with olive tapenade platter. I ordered it to nibble as we perused the remainder of the menu. The hummus is made in house and certainly does taste fresh. I love that the dish came with a ton of cucumbers! Often, we do not get enough. Yum!

Drunken Shrimp Pasta

I finally settled on the Drunken Shrimp Pasta featuring rock shrimp marinated in spicy jerk, a local pale ale beer  with fresh garlic, tomato, white wine and chili flakes. I quite enjoyed the sauce and I liked the addition of the tomatoes.

I ordered a new shareable item for a side Roasted Brussels Sprouts! The brussels sprouts are an example of one of Tap House's unique menu items. The dish features candied bacon, Parmesan cheese, herbs and a balsamic glaze. I liked the flavors -- the sprouts were a bit overdone -- but tasty in general.

Tap House Chop Chop Salad

My daughter went for the Tap House Chop Chop Salad which was piled very high! The salad is crafted with romaine lettuce, celery, tomato, garbanzo beans, pepperoncinis, bacon, bleu and Parmesan cheese, cucumber and onion, tossed in herb-balsamic vinaigrette. Wow! Definitely a hearty salad!

Towering 1 pound BLT
We don't often have bacon in the house, so my husband jumped at the 1 lb. BLT. Yes,  1 lb! The size of the sandwich is MASSIVE. He somehow finished most of it. Hmmmmmm............ The BLT came with a few pickles. I was happy to learn they are housemade!

To Finish: A Peanut Butter Kit Kat!

As you may imagine, my husband was pretty full. But, the rest of us really, really, really needed a dessert! For dessert, we savored the Housemade Kit Kat Bar featuring chocolate covered chocolate peanut bitter sticks. I was actually pretty impressed with the dessert. I am a hard sell when it comes to peanut butter -- most desserts do not have enough. This one did! Delicious!

Overall, we enjoyed our meals at Tap House Grill. Service was great and friendly! We love that everything is housemade and that the menu features inventive dishes. Kids eat dinner free on Sundays which is another plus. The menu is HUGE and definitely worthy of further exploration.
