Full weekend of engaging family fun events in the Chicago suburbs and surrounding areas. Here are my picks for the weekend:
Road Trip: Monument Square Art Festival and Great Lakes Chalk Art Contest June 9-10, love this art festival near the lake, great opportunity to see chalk art

Ongoing:
  • May 19-Sept 15 Butterfly House, Peck Farm, Geneva, 9AM-5PM Mon-Sat, Sun 12PM-5PM, closed Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day, suggested donation, $2 pp or $5 per family
  • Now-June 21 Troll Hunt at The Morton Arboretum -- see large scale trolls being made from reclaimed wood. Free with admission.
Friday, June 8:
  • June 8-10 Festival of the Fox, St. Charles, dragon boat races, music, water ski show, see schedule
  • June 8 Picnic in the Park, North School Park, Arlington Heights, 4:30PM-7:30PM, moonwalks, slides, crafts and more, food trucks
Saturday, June 9:
  • June 9 Canyon Tours, Sagawau Environmental Learning Center, Lemont, 10AM, must RSVP, space is limited, call 630-257-2045
  • June 9-10 Elgin Civil War Experience, 10AM-4PM, encampment, reenactments, medical field operations and more, $5 if tickets purchased in advance, $7 at the door
  • June 9-10 Promenade of Art, Arlington Heights, 10AM-5PM
  • June 9 Magic Festival, Downtown Aurora, 11AM-5PM, classes, games, vendors, contests, proceeds donated to charity, $15 per person, kids 4 and under are free, can purchases tickets online
  • June 9 Second Saturday at Cantigny Park: Farm Activities, Wheaton, 12PM-3PM, make butter, card wool and more, free, parking is $10 per car, there is also a vintage baseball game starting at 1PM
  • June 9 German Beer Garden, Volkening Heritage Farm, Schaumburg, 4PM-7PM, fun for the whole family, local craft beer, soda, pretzels, German music, admission is $5 and includes reusable glass and free pretzel, beer and soda for purchase, kids three and under are free
Sunday, June 10:
  • June 10 Art in the Park, Village Green, Elk Grove Village, 12PM-5PM
  • June 10 Make Blue Grass Jam and Art Pop Up, Trailside Museum of Natural History, River Forest, 1PM-3PM, free admission
  • June 10 Hometown Picnic, Naper Settlement, Naperville, 1PM-4PM, bring your family and a picnic, enjoy a vintage baseball game starting at 2PM, enjoy free ice cream from Colonial Cafe, other activities, free with museum admission, Admission is $15/adult, $10/youth (4–12). Naper Settlement members and children under 4 are free
  • June 10 Frog Finders, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 1PM, search and find frogs, free
