In Search of Seven Bridges Trail and a Splendid Nature Adventure at Grant Park in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Hiking Over Bridges and Up and Down Bluffs at Grant Park in South Milwaukee, WI

When searching for new trails to hike, I stumbled upon Seven Bridges Trail. What isn't to love about bridges melding with nature? Unbeknownst to me, my husband was scoping out trails in Grant Park in South Milwaukee. Turns out, we were looking at the same destination because Seven Bridges Trail is in Grant Park. So, one beautiful morning we drove up to South Milwaukee, Wisconsin to enjoy some Milwaukee hiking.

Hiking Up and Down Bluffs:

Grant Park rests along Lake Michigan. Hiking up onto the bluffs affords incredible vistas. We found much of the preserve densely forested and the familiar verdant green of late spring. There are multiple trails in addition to Seven Bridges Trail. Due to flooding, we had to weave ourselves between different trails. There are multiple sections where you can go up and down via stairs.

Hiking down, you will arrive at the beach and enjoy a splendid view.

We did not quite cross all seven bridges because we kept weaving between trails. But, we did cross many of them and saw all of them. We could tell that the kids especially loved the bridges and sections where they could explore a brook.

Finding the Head of Seven Bridges Trail:

The covered bridge at the head of the Seven Bridges Trail is clearly a favorite photo stop. Inscribed is the phrase: "Enter this wild wood and view the haunts of nature." Of course, that phrase leads some to believe the trail is haunted. However, I did not find it haunted nor did I find the trails creepy. But, perhaps, it is a reminder to pause and hear nature.

Overall, we found the preserve to be stunning. We could have spent the whole day just wandering the trails enveloped in nature. Who wouldn't want just one more peek at Lake Michigan lovingly framed by trees?
