Heritage Harvest Fest, Scarecrow Trail, Sherlock Scandal and More Fall Fun October 4-6, 2019 in the Chicago Suburbs

Fall is such a splendid time of year! Don't you just love the warmth of celebrating the harvest? There are plenty of fun fall activities this weekend. Here are my picks:

Ongoing:
  • September 7-November 3 Richardson Adventure Farm and the World's Largest Corn Maze
  • September 7- October 27 Shades of Autumn Festival --  For nearly two months each year, Shades of Autumn Festival at Stade's in McHenry features a plethora of fun fall activities including picking pumpkins, a pumpkin cannon, a corn maze, duck races, a hay bale climb, zip lines, slide mountain and much more.
  • September 21-October 27 Pumpkin Daze, Abbey Farms, Aurora, corn maze, zip lines, log beam balance course, corn cannon, combine slide, craft beer tent on weekends, Saturday movie nights, Farmstead Emporium Store and so much more! 
  • October 1-31 Scarecrow Trail, Morton Arboretum, free with admission
Friday, October 4:
  • October 4-5 Oktoberfest, Naper Settlement, German beer, food and music, family activities Saturday, see website for more info
Saturday, October 5:
  • October 5-6 Festival of Arts and Crafts, Lake County Fairgrounds, $5 pp, ages 11 and under are free
  • October 5 Heritage Harvest Fest, Midway Village, Rockford, 10AM-3PM, antique farm equipment, make your own scarecrow (charge), kids activities, $8 adults, $6 kids
  • October 5 Oaktober Celebration, Ryerson Conservation Area, Deerfield, 1PM-4PM, nature themed activities, guided walks, free
  • October 5 Free Trail Walks, The Grove, Glenview, 2PM
  • October 5 Autumn Harvest, Arlington Heights, North School Park, 11AM-3PM, scarecrow building, face painting, hayrides and more, free
  • October 5 Howl-o-Ween Pooch Parade, K-9 Park, Schaumburg, $2/$3 per person (res/non), $5/$7 per dog, must have vaccination info, see website for more
  • October 5-6 Autumn Harvest Festival, Volkening Heritage Farm and Merkle Cabin, Schaumburg, 12PM-4PM, enjoy 1880's farm fun and activities for fall, cider pressing, live music, games and more, $5 per person, $20 per family. children ages 3 and under are free
  • October 5 & 6 Walking Plays: Sherlock Scandal, Morton Arboretum, 3PM, for adults and kids ages 10+, order tickets online
Sunday, October 6:
  • October 6 Autumn Voyagers, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 1PM, check for autumn visitors -- migrating birds, hiking for about 45 minutes, wear close toed shoes,f ree
  • October 6, 20 and 27 Croctoberfest, Wildlife Discovery Center, Lake Forest, 10AM-4PM, feeding demos, meet resident crocs and more, free but donations welcome
