Summer Morning Rush at Falls Park in Sioux Falls Crafts a Splendid Start to the Day

Falls Park in Sioux Falls, South Dakota Greeted Us with the Power of the Falls and the Kiss of their Misty Spray on Our Faces

Tiered cascades rushing from Big Sioux River provided us with a rather splendid morning start  in Sioux Falls during our recent summer road trip. We benefited by fantastic weather during our whole trip and our morning in Sioux Falls was no departure. Stunning weather and a stunning landscape!

Wandering Falls Park:

Plentiful perches provided unique views of the falls. Exuberantly, we explored the park taking in a range of viewpoints. Of course, I was quite excited to take photos of different orientations and angles to experiment with seeing nature's beauty while playing with a variety of perspectives.

The Power of the Falls:

An incredible 7,400 gallons of water drops 100 feet over the course of the tiered cascades every minute. Immense power emanates from the falls. Spectacular river-sculpted rock formations add to the breathtaking scene. A number of the significant buildings in Sioux Falls are constructed from this rock known as Sioux Quartzite which is actually stronger than granite.

Throughout Falls Park, ruins and reconstructions reflect how the power of the falls have been harnessed including the Queen Bee Mill once milling flour. However, the Big Sioux River's flow was not consistently powerful enough to operate the mill at capacity. So, it was unfortunately only open 1881-1883.

Interesting tidbit --> Queen Bee Mill was constructed from Sioux Quartzite, of course!

Savoring Mist from an Overlook:

One spot in particular charmed us with a fantastic view and the spray of the falls on our faces. The overlook we appreciated provided additional perspective and a welcome mist on such a hot day.

Additional overlooks, bridges and more provided novel views and experiences. Falls Park invites wandering through a variety of paths and on the rocks. The Visitor Information Center not only offers more information about the area but a free Observation Tower for another look.

Sweet Treats from Queen City Bakery:

Seeing the falls and colorful chunks of Sioux Quartzite unfold before us ignited pure awe! We certainly basked in a spectacular morning in Sioux Falls. To complete our morning, we also delighted in baked treats from Queen City Bakery.

Queen City Bakery showcased so many treats, we had difficulty choosing. During our visit, we munched on a delicious pecan bar, morning bun and tomato pesto quiche. Delicious. Delicious. Delicious!

In addition, we also ordered a peanut butter square. How can one resist? In this family, we are HUGE peanut butter fans. The peanut butter square was an instant hit!

Our morning in Sioux Falls pampered us with a majestic nature experience showcasing the grandeur of nature! Truly nothing compares to a fantastic nature adventure!
