The weekend is nearly here and we are fully into holiday mode! Here are my picks for this week including virtual, outdoor and safe indoor experiences. It has been amazing to see how creative everyone has been during this time!


Ongoing:

Fairy Quest at The Grove in Glenview, download The Grove app and use it to search for fairy homes at The Grove!

Festival of Lights Cosley Zoo Wheaton; November 27-December 30 (closed Christmas Day), fresh Christmas trees and garland for sale, the event will be different than past years to keep everyone safe but just as festive, see website for more info, event is free and donations are very much appreciated.

December 5-31 Elgin Festival of Lights

Holiday Festival of Lights, Phillip's Park Zoo, Aurora, Northern Illinois' largest drive-thru display, November 27 - December 26 free but donations accepted.

North School Park, Arlington Heights, November 24-early January, free!

Holiday Tree Trail St. Charles November 28 - December 24 (at least), come and see trees decorated by community members, November 28 also includes the window decorating contest, holiday events in St. Charles are different than in years past.

Holiday Lights Lilacia Park, Lombard, December 5-January 3, magical array of musical lights, check website for more details AND how the park district will be keeping visitors safe while having fun.

Naper Lights -- downtown Naperville 4PM-9PM through January 9 (already on)

Willow Creek Wonderland Walk, South Barrington, 10 miles of lights on 55 structures, free but you must register to maintain safe numbers, December 1-24

Santa's Rock N Lights, Lake County Fairgrounds, Grayslake, drive through light show of nearly 1000 elements, November 20 - January 3; 4:45PM-11PM, see website for more information and to purchase tickets.

Lake Forest Lights Up the Parks, parks in Lake Forest, November 27-January 10, free

Mooseheart Lights, Mooseheart, November 27-December 31, 5PM-9PM, 1.8 miles drive thru, $20 per car suggested donation, no exchange of money, see website for more info and verify that event is still happening, there is a special day where you can ride your horse on November 24 for $20 per rider and horse -- must RSVP -- see website

Holiday Magic, Brookfield Zoo will delight visitors in its 39th year of Holiday Magic with more than one million lights, a gnome hunt and more, November 27-29, December 2-6, 9-13, 16-20, 26-31, see website for more info on ticketing, times and prices, must reserve tickets.

Dickens Holiday Village throughout downtown Antioch, through January 1, 2021, see life-sized Dickens characters and scenes around town, a downloadable brochure shows you where to find the scenes, also Kringle Christmas Village has been located to a showroom should you want to see the shadowboxes full of holiday cheer

Firefly Family Theatre Presents: A Tiny Spark, Arlington Heights Memorial Library YouTube Channel, December 12-19, a firefly is having difficulty finding her light, she travels through the forest looking for it, check website for more info and access to info for printable firefly puppet

Virtual Dollhouse Tours through February 15, 2021, explore dollhouses through the perspective of dolls, Mount Prospect Historical Society, $10 per family, must register

Ruth Page's A Sugar Plum of a Tradition, "The Nutcracker" Past, Present and Future, through December 31, virtual, behind-the-scenes look at the famed production, $20 per pay-per-view

December 18-20 December Nights at Cantigny Park, Wheaton, Cantigny grounds are open until 7PM so you can enjoy an evening stroll with the lights! Bring an unwrapped new toy for donation and parking fee will be waived! (Normally $5.)

December 18-20 Kohlights, Kohl's Children's Museum, Glenview, December 11-13, 18-23, 26-31, Jan 1-3, preview Dec 4-6, no touch interactive outdoor display, $25 per person, $22 per person for preview, $5 off for members, must purchase timed entry tickets

Saturday, December 19:

December 19 Celebrate the Endangered Species Act with Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, 11AM-12PM, virtual, must register, $2 per person, learn about their work saving the Blandings' turtle

December 19 Nutcracker Dancing Windows, McDonald Dance Academy, Arlington Heights, 2PM-3:30PM, student created, free

December 19 - 20 Patterson Glassworks Open House: Make Ornaments or Icicles, Mundelein, $35, by appointment only

December 19 Winter Wonderland Walk Through, Long Grove, Brother's Field, 5PM-8PM, socially distanced Santa visit put together by the Long Grove Firefighters Union

December 19 Christmas with Borne2Dance, Inc. Virtual Performance, the dancers at Borne2Dance, Inc. have put together a jolly performance all filmed outside!, the event will be available starting 7PM December 19-7PM January 2, register online, $15 

Sunday, December 20:

December 20 Royal's Virtual Adventure "Snowed in for the Season," 4:30PM, live action virtual experience by Royal Princess Parties, about 40 minutes run time, $20 per household, reserve tickets in advance

December 20 Virtual Library Foundation Concert: Best of the Holidays with Golden West Pops, 2PM-3:30PM, must register
