Another spring weekend is ahead! Plus, we will be celebrating Mom! There are plenty of fun events and adventures this weekend! See my picks -- Happy Mother's Day!

Ongoing:

Dunn Museum in Libertyville is back open, please reserve timed ticket, learn about the history and natural history of Lake County, enjoy special exhibits as well, admission fee

Ongoing Naper Settlement is back open to the public Tuesdays - Saturdays 10AM-4PM,, Sundays 1PM-4PM, adults $10 pp, seniors 62+  $8, kids ages 4-12 $7, Naperville residents (with proof of residency), children under 4 and Naper Settlement Members are free, must register ahead. Also, visit the new Answering the Call: Naperville at War exhibit focusing on WWII.

Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays Book a Tour of The Grove Interpretive Center, Glenview, $2 for residents, $ 5 for non, 10AM-2PM, groups limited to 25, children under 2 are free, meet all of the resident animals and learn about Robert Kennicott, must register online, tours are 45 minutes

Through June 6 Simply Spring Butterfly Exhibit, Nicholas Conservatory, Rockford, enjoy viewing live butterflies flying in the conservatory and learn about their life cycle, $9 per adult, $7per child or senior, must pre-register

Mid-April-Mid May Richardson Farm Tulip Festival, Spring Grove, weather dependent, purchase tickets online, $15 single day Sat or Sun, $12 Mon-Fri

April 22 - May 2 Earth Day Adventure, Scavenger Hunt with Palatine Park District, Free

May 1-16 Lilac Time at Lilacia Park in Lombard, Lilac Store featuring lilac items, Lilac Heritage tours $7 pp -- must register

May 8 - October 10 Model Railroad Garden open at Chicago Botanic Garden, Adults: $8, Seniors: $7, Children (3 – 12): $6 Children (2 and under): Free Members receive $1 off each price Garden Plus members get in free on Wednesdays, tickets are at ticket booth in front of exhibit and have timed entry, must also reserve time to visit gardens and purchase parking online, parking: $25 per weekday, $30 on weekends

Saturday, May 8:

May 8 Nature Walk, Mallard Lake, Hanover Park, 9AM or 11AM, $5 pp, register online, must wear a mask, children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult

May 8 World Migratory Bird Day, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 9:30AM or 1PM, sign up for a guided bird walk, must wear masks and distance, must register by calling 847-381-6592

May 8 Spring Wildflower Walk, Farnsworth House, Plano, 10AM-11AM, $10 per person, must register

May 8 Virtual Indian Dance featuring Bharatam Academy, through Mount Prospect Public Library, 11AM-11:30AM, free but must register

May 8  Volo Bog Tour, Ingleside, 12PM or 2PM, free but you must register, must wear masks and social distance

May 8-9  The Progressive Farm: A Barnyard Tour, Kline Creek Farm, West Chicago, 1:30PM, 2:30PM, 3:30PM, learn about farming towards the end of the 19th century, costumed interpreter, free but tours are limited to 10 people, those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult, masks and social distancing required 

May 8 Walpurgis Night Campfire, Heritage Farm, Schaumburg, 6PM-8:15PM, don your witch's hat and learn about a unique German holiday, roast marshmallows, enjoy a wagon ride, must register, 

Sunday, May 9:

May 9 Bird Walk, Sagawau Environmental Learning Center, Lemont, 8:30AM, hike with a naturalist and learn about birds, must register, call 630-257-2045, must wear masks and physical distance

May 9 Haiku Walk, Trailside, River Forest, 9AM-4PM, walk along the paved trail and enjoy haikus, maybe you will be inspired to write one too, free, $4 resident, $5 non, kids under 3 free

May 9 Mother's Day Yoga in The Park, Arlington Heights, 10AM-11AM, 45 min yoga, 15 min mindfulness project, great for yoga with mom or maybe dad wants to take the kids out to give mom me time, $15 pp, must register

May 9 Wildflower Walk, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 10:30AM, casual walk learning about spring's wildflower, free but must register 847-834-8364, must wear masks and distance

May 9 Walk with Mini Therapy Horses at Deer Park, 10:30AM-11:30AM, visit with Soul Harbor Ranch Animal Therapy mini horses and dogs, trees near Pottery Barn, free, masks required

May 9 Mother's Day Celebration, Heritage Farm, Schaumburg, 12PM-3PM, make a handmade gift for mom and then enjoy the grounds, $6 resident, $8 non, must register
