19 Family Fun Events in the Chicago Suburbs June 19-20, 2021

Summer is in full gear! We have some really great events in the suburbs this weekend! Here are my picks for weekend fun:

Ongoing:

Ongoing Naper Settlement is back open to the public Tuesdays - Saturdays 10AM-4PM,, Sundays 1PM-4PM, adults $10 pp, seniors 62+  $8, kids ages 4-12 $7, Naperville residents (with proof of residency), children under 4 and Naper Settlement Members are free, must register ahead. Also, visit the new Answering the Call: Naperville at  War exhibit focusing on WWII.

May 8 - October 10 Model Railroad Garden open at Chicago Botanic Garden, Adults: $8, Seniors: $7, Children (3 – 12): $6 Children (2 and under): Free Members receive $1 off each price Garden Plus members get in free on Wednesdays, tickets are at ticket booth in front of exhibit and have timed entry, must also reserve time to visit gardens and purchase parking online, parking: $25 per weekday, $30 on weekends

May 22 - September 18 Butterfly House at Peck Farm in Geneva is open Monday - Saturday 9AM-5PM, Sunday 12PM-5PM, suggested donation $2 pp or $6 per family, masks and social distancing required.

May 14 - August 29 To the Moon Snoopy Soars with NASA, Elmhurst History Museum, learn how Snoopy was part of NASA's Manned Flight Awareness safety program, learn about the Apollo program and more, free

May 31 - September 6 Butterflies and Blooms, Chicago Botanic Gardens, 10AM-5PM, $25 parking during the week, $30 on weekends, tickets adults $8, seniors $7, children (3-12) $6, children 2 and under free, members $1 off, garden plus members free on Wednesdays, 10 visit pas $50 per members, $60 non members, must reserve timed-entry to garden, tickets for exhibit are at booth

Ongoing Human + Nature at Morton Arboretum, Lisle, stunning natural sculptures to help connect people with trees, the exhibition includes 5 incredible sculptures, included with normal admission

Ongoing through Labor Day Local Art Pop Up at Izaak Walton Park in Prospect Heights

Saturday, June 19

June 19 Juneteenth Celebration, Sand Ridge Nature Center, South Holland, 10AM-3PM, day long event with presenters and interpreters, must register

June 19 & 20 Burr Ridge Art and Artisan Fair, Burr Ridge Village Center, Willowbrook, 10AM-5PM, meet with artists, see demos, purchase art, 

June 19 Grayslake Art Festival and Wine Tasting, 10am-4pm art festival, 1pm-3pm wine tasting, $15 tickets at the door, $12 if you purchase online by 6/17

June 19 Oregon Family Real Life Challenge, Midway Village, Rockford, 10am-4pm, how will your family fare in this challenge brought to life at the museum, $10 per adult, $7 per child, purchase tix online or at gate day of, takes about 2.5 hours to complete

June 19 & 20 Farmhouse Museum Tours, Kline Creek Farm, West Chicago, 10AM-4PM, learn what it was like to live on the farm and how farms served as building blocks of the rural community, free

June 19 Virtual Pride Family Dance Party, via Mount Prospect Public Libray, 10AM-10:30AM, free but must register

June 19 Juneteenth Parade and Celebration, Evanston, 11AM-4PM, musical entertainment, art, food and celebration

June 19 Kids Fest, Heritage Park, Wheeling, 11AM-2PM, kids entertainment and arts and crafts, free

June 19 Juneteenth Unity Car Parade, Aurora, 2PM-3PM

Sunday, June 20

June 20 The Unburied Treasure Hunt, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 11AM-2PM, pick up a map at the tent and decode the clues to find the un-buried treasure on the trails

June 20 Deerfield Historic Village Open, Deerfield, 2PM-4PM, tour historic buildings, interpreters available, free

June 20 Dancing Queen: An ABBA Tribute, concert at Cantigny Park, Wheaton, 3PM-5PM, $10 per car parking
