Summer is in full swing and there are plenty of fun opportunities this weekend in the Chicago suburbs. Here are my picks:

Ongoing

May 8 - October 10 Model Railroad Garden open at Chicago Botanic Garden, Adults: $8, Seniors: $7, Children (3 – 12): $6 Children (2 and under): Free Members receive $1 off each price Garden Plus members get in free on Wednesdays, tickets are at ticket booth in front of exhibit and have timed entry, must also reserve time to visit gardens and purchase parking online, parking: $25 per weekday, $30 on weekends

May 31 - September 6 Butterflies and Blooms, Chicago Botanic Gardens, 10AM-5PM, $25 parking during the week, $30 on weekends, tickets adults $8, seniors $7, children (3-12) $6, children 2 and under free, members $1 off, garden plus members free on Wednesdays, 10 visit pas $50 per members, $60 non members, must reserve timed-entry to garden, tickets for exhibit are at booth

May 22 - September 18 Butterfly House at Peck Farm in Geneva is open Monday - Saturday 9AM-5PM, Sunday 12PM-5PM, suggested donation $2 pp or $6 per family, masks and social distancing required.

May 14 - August 29 To the Moon Snoopy Soars with NASA, Elmhurst History Museum, learn how Snoopy was part of NASA's Manned Flight Awareness safety program, learn about the Apollo program and more, free

Ongoing Naper Settlement is open to the public Tuesdays - Saturdays 10AM-4PM,, Sundays 1PM-4PM, adults $12 pp, seniors 62+  $10, kids ages 4-12 $8, Naperville residents (with proof of residency), children under 4 and Naper Settlement Members are free. Also, visit the new Answering the Call: Naperville at  War exhibit focusing on WWII.

Ongoing Human + Nature at Morton Arboretum, Lisle, stunning natural sculptures to help connect people with trees, the exhibition includes 5 incredible sculptures, included with normal admission

Ongoing through Labor Day Local Art Pop Up at Izaak Walton Park in Prospect Heights

Ongoing Von Bergen's Sunflower Mazes, Hebron, ongoing as long as there are blooms, ticket reservation recommended, $12 per adult, $10 per child on weekends, $8 and $6 week days, $1 processing fee per ticket

Ongoing Richardson Farm Sunflower Festival,  Spring Grove, Wednesdays-Sundays, $12 pp Wed-Fri, $15 pp Sat & Sun, includes one free sunflower, see website for more info

Ongoing - September 16 Par Excellence Redux at the Elmhurst Art Museum. This fun new interactive exhibit features 9 mini golf holes designed by both local artists and artists throughout the country. The exciting new exhibit honors the original Par Excellence exhibit at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1988. You must reserve a tee time. $10 per adult, $8 per senior, $5 for children and free for kiddies under 5.

July 15-18 Toagie Fest, Highwood, enjoy a festival celebrating tacos and hoagies!, carnival, live music and more

Friday, July 16

July 16 Tractor-Drawn Wagon Rides, St. James Farm, Warrenville, 1PM-3PM, $5 per person, learn about this history of the farm, no registration necessary, rides begin at 1PM, 1:45PM and 2:30PM

July 16-17 Naper Nights, Naper Settlement, Naperville, 5PM-10PM, bring along your long chairs for an evening of live music and great food, July 16 Tina Turner Tribute (6:00PM), James Brown Tribute (8PM); July 17 Yacht Rock (6PM); Talking Heads Tribute (8PM); $15 per adult, $10 per child, children under 4 free, please purchase tickets online

July 16-17 Yorkville River Fest, Riverfront Park, Yorkville, live country music, touch-at-truck Friday, family activities Saturday, see schedule

Saturday, July 17

July 17-18 National Gathering of American Indian Veterans, Cantigny Park, 8AM-6PM, honor veterans, watch performances of cultural groups, join in a powwow with veterans, purchase art by veteran artists, free with $10 parking

July 17-18 Farmhouse Museum Tours, Kline Creek Farm, West Chicago, 10AM-4PM, learn what it was like to live on the farm and how farms served as building blocks of the rural community, free

July 17 World Snake Day, Willowbrook, Glen Ellyn, 11AM-3PM, learn about resident snakes and their adaptations, free

June 17 Tour Viking  -- The Viking Ship in Geneva, 1PM-4PM, $7 pp age 18+, children free, must wear mask and social distance, must register for a time

July 17 Downtown Dash: A Glenview Scavenger Hunt, Glenview Public Library, enjoy a 1-2 hour challenge, 2PM-4PM, free planned for teens and adults, please register

Sunday, July 18

July 18 Birds of Prey on Display, Volegei Park, Hoffman Estates, 1PM-3PM, learn about birds of prey up close, free

July 18 Mammal Murmur, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 1PM, learn about the mammals that call Cook County home, free but must register
