This weekend, events are full of spring, maple syrup and a dash of St. Patrick's Day! Here are my picks:

Through March 27, 2022 Ansel Adams: Early Works, Dunn Museum, Libertyville, see website for times and ticketing info

Ongoing Visit Oak Park Conservatory for a warm-weather escape and brilliant blooms without leaving the 'burbs. Admission is free, donations are appreciated. While in the area check out the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio and other Frank Lloyd Wright homes.

February 5 - May 29 Houses of Tomorrow: Solar Homes from Keck to Today, Elmhurst Art Museum, Keck's Glass House of Tomorrow designed for the 1933 World's Fair was the first in the USA and groundbreaking in terms of solar energy, learn about his designs and others taking into account sustainable practices, advanced ticket purchase required, $15 per adult, $12 per senior, kids are free 

February 12 - March 27 The Orchid Show, Chicago Botanic Garden, be dazzled by displays of stunning wild orchids, ticket prices vary, see website for ticketing details

March 12 - May 29 Secret Life of Butterflies at Nicholas Conservatory in Rockford, experience butterflies flying around the conservatory, watch them emerge from cocoons, see website for ticketing info

Saturday, March 19

March 19 - 20 Maple Fest, Red Oak Nature Center, Batavia, a variety of time slots, ticket required for presentation, $3 pp, learn how maple syrup is made

March 19-20 Maple Syrup Hikes, Ryerson, Deerfield, various times, $6 pp, must register

March 19 Sap's Rising, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 10:30AM and 1:30PM, walk in the maple forest and learn how maple syrup is made

March 19-20 Maple Sugaring Kline Creek Farm, West Chicago, 1PM-4PM, learn how maple syrup is made, use 1890s tools

March 19 St. Patrick's Day Parade, Rockford, free

March 19 St. Patrick's Day Fireworks, Dundee

Sunday, March 20

March 20 Maple Syrup Festival, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 11AM-3PM, learn about maple tree taping and how to make maple syrup, play fun games and create crafts, free

March 20 Woodcock Walk, Plum Creek Nature Center, Beecher, 6:30PM-8PM, ages 7+, free, enjoy a walk at sunset to see the woodcock and his courtship dance
