St. Patrick's Day is one of my favorite holidays and this weekend sure is full of St. Paddy's Day fun! We are also in maple sugaring season! There is plenty of fun ahead -- here are my picks:

Through March 27, 2022 Ansel Adams: Early Works, Dunn Museum, Libertyville, see website for times and ticketing info

Ongoing Visit Oak Park Conservatory for a warm-weather escape and brilliant blooms without leaving the 'burbs. Admission is free, donations are appreciated. While in the area check out the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio and other Frank Lloyd Wright homes.

February 5 - May 29 Houses of Tomorrow: Solar Homes from Keck to Today, Elmhurst Art Museum, Keck's Glass House of Tomorrow designed for the 1933 World's Fair was the first in the USA and groundbreaking in terms of solar energy, learn about his designs and others taking into account sustainable practices, advanced ticket purchase required, $15 per adult, $12 per senior, kids are free 

February 12 - March 27 The Orchid Show, Chicago Botanic Garden, be dazzled by displays of stunning wild orchids, ticket prices vary, see website for ticketing details

March 12 - May 29 Secret Life of Butterflies at Nicholas Conservatory in Rockford, experience butterflies flying around the conservatory, watch them emerge from cocoons, see website for ticketing info

March 12 St. Patrick's Day Fun in Yorkville, Leprechaun Hunt 9AM-12PM, parade 11AM, fireworks 6:30PM and more, free

March 12 GLMV Extreme Block Party, Doubletree Mundelein, 10AM-3PM, family fun including a free reptile show at 12PM, visit with local businesses, enjoy food samples, raffles and more, free admission

March 12 + 13 Make a Glass Shamrock or Flower, Patterson Glassworks, Mundelein, 10AM-2PM, $35 each, reservations recommended

March 12 St. Patrick's Day Parade, Naperville, 10AM

March 12 + 13 Sap's Rising, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 10:30AM and 1:30PM, walk in the maple forest and learn how maple syrup is made

March 12 Twisted Tales Theatre, Jack and the Beanstalk, Arlington Heights Memorial Library, 11 AM, free but must register

March 12 Durty Nellie's St. Patrick's Day Parade, Palatine, 11AM

March 12 + 13 Guided Tours of Volo Bog, Ingleside, 11AM and 1PM, meet in front of visitor center, registration requested dnr.volobog@illinois.gov, free

March 12 Family Day at Elmhurst Art Museum, 1PM-4PM, make solar prints, paint flower pots, receive seeds and soil for planting at home, free with admission (kids are free)

March 12-13 Maple Sugaring Kline Creek Farm, West Chicago, 1PM-4PM, learn how maple syrup is made, use 1890s tools

March 12 Maple Tapping, Trailside, River Forest, 1:30pm, take a short walk and learn how to tap a maple free, free but registration requires
