Ongoing Visit Oak Park Conservatory for a warm-weather escape and brilliant blooms without leaving the 'burbs. Admission is free, donations are appreciated. While in the area check out the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio and other Frank Lloyd Wright homes.

February 5 - May 29 Houses of Tomorrow: Solar Homes from Keck to Today, Elmhurst Art Museum, Keck's Glass House of Tomorrow designed for the 1933 World's Fair was the first in the USA and groundbreaking in terms of solar energy, learn about his designs and others taking into account sustainable practices, advanced ticket purchase required, $15 per adult, $12 per senior, kids are free 

February 12 - March 27 The Orchid Show, Chicago Botanic Garden, be dazzled by displays of stunning wild orchids, ticket prices vary, see website for ticketing details

March 12 - May 29 Secret Life of Butterflies at Nicholas Conservatory in Rockford, experience butterflies flying around the conservatory, watch them emerge from cocoons, see website for ticketing info

March 26 Guided Tours of  Volo Bog, Ingleside, 11am and 1pm, meet in front of the Visitor Center, free

March 26--27 Maple Sugaring Kline Creek Farm, West Chicago, 1PM-4PM, learn how maple syrup is made, use 1890s tools

March 26 Dinner is Served, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 4:30PM, join a naturalist at the raptor enclosures to learn more about the raptors during feeding time, free

Sunday, March 27

March 27 Muddy Paws, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 1PM, go on a .5 mile hike and see what tracks you find in the spring mud, free
