A trip to the theatre is such a special holiday season tradition. We began our holiday celebrations this year with a visit to the Citadel Theatre in Lake Forest for the opening weekend of It Runs In The Family. This is the second production that we have watched at the Citadel Theatre and this performance was just as fantastic as the last. If you are looking for a high-quality show, the Citadel Theatre is the place to go!

A doctor's common area during the holiday season serves as a setting that quickly becomes an ever-evolving patchwork of changing characters throughout It Runs In The Family. As characters float in and out, the audience tries to follow along and keep straight who did what -- and who knows what.

The story involves a bit of a family mystery that has yet to be fully revealed to the full cast. Nineteen years after an affair between a doctor and a nurse, the nurse returns to the hospital with a son previously unknown to the doctor -- just as the doctor prepares to give a speech at a conference. During the course of the tale, the cast of characters fly in and out through the common area's doors. Adding a few more curves to the story -- characters are also preparing for a holiday pantomime by donning a variety of costumes. You never know who will be joining the hilarity next! Many stories are woven together at first obscuring the truth until it is finally revealed. The production has so many twists that you will be surprised at the end!

All of the actors were spot on in their roles. We were pretty impressed by lead actor Tim Walsh aka Dr. Mortimore and how he adeptly keeps the changing storyline straight throughout the show. Truly masterful! Chris Bruzzini's (aka Police Sergeant) retelling of the events is also pretty impressive -- and funny! All of the acting was fabulous!

It Runs In The Family will have you laughing from start to finish. The cast encounters absurd situation after absurd situation. The hysterical reactions of the characters to each situation will treat you to a hearty laugh.

It Runs In The Family runs through December 18, 2022. If you are looking for superb acting and a good laugh, It Runs In The Family is the show for you!
